A tragic event indeed and emphasises the need for better gun controls.

Chief: Evidence shows shooter believed someone was using mind control on him

Sclabassi said her department still does not have a motive for this shooting, but Obeshaw was showing signs of mental illness before the shooting.

"However, our investigation revealed after talking to witnesses and family members that apparently Mr. Obeshaw had been experiencing mental instability over the past year or so. We found evidence that Obeshaw believed that someone was trying to control him through mind control ... he thought someone was out to get him."

Sclabassi said it's difficult to think this may have been preventable. Obeshaw had just purchased the handgun this past September.

"Of course, this is a tragic situation and the thought that maybe if the right person had the right information at the right time could have prevented this, of course it's very frustrating," she said. "Clearly this was an individual who needed help. Clearly this is an individual who should not have been able to purchase a handgun just this past September."

Here.

The sting is worse that he was a "friend of the family".

Another reason for my wanting Bernie in office, with single payer health, he might have had an easier time getting mental health help, Bernie has seen the causal link between mental instability and shootings here in America. People may gripe about gun checks, but they can help screen out people with mental instability from getting a tool that could help them kill others and or themselves.

Had he been in a national health database for his problems, the background check could have flagged him, and then he would have been unable to just buy that gun.

Len, do you really believe if Bernie was in power we would see a change in the mental health area?

Between himself, and a mid-term vote to get progressives in office we would see single payer health care which could allow for mental health access that still is out of reach, and shared info could allow for screenings to find potential gun buyers as not able to get one due to possible suicide/murderous intent. This though is not possible with the republicans and their strangle-hold of Congress and the Senate.
