Another Earthquake in New Zealand Empty Another Earthquake in New Zealand

Just on midnight tonight. Heavy swaying where we are. Apparently 7.5R and centred at Cheviot about 100km north from here. It went on for about 3 minutes!

Felt all over NZ! Just been revised at 6.9R.

Again.... Sad terrible...... my heart goes to the victims, their families and everybody affected.

There was also a 6.2 in North-East Argentina, but luckily in an area that's not populated.

Two dead so far. One in a building collapse. Kaikoura got the brunt, about half way between here and Picton. It's isolated at the moment.

The first was a foreshock and the biggie was at about 3.00am at 7.5R , just inland of Kaikoura. There have been many 'quakes all over the country.

Supermoon tonight?

We're alright here but I had my missus holding onto me tight all night!

Been in contact with friends via Ham Radio in Kaikoura, they are safe but the town is battered.

There is a large dairy farming area there too and the farmers can't milk their cows!

What a terrifying night for so many. The photos of buckled roads and landslides quite incredible. And again continual aftershocks still.

The weather forecast is not good either. Gale winds and heavy rain through that area tonight. Adds to the misery!

The Kaikoura Range is young. 18,000yrs ago it was a plain now it's mountains about 8000' high! Right off the coast the sea drops into the Hikarangi Trench, about 4 Nautical miles deep!

Apparently the coast has uplifted 3.5m! Abalone on the rocks are left high and dry! The Kaikoura Range has uplifted an average of 1.2m.

8 Houses have been condemned Kaikoura, not too bad really but the road will be closed for a long time yet.
Two high rise buildings in Wellington have been condemned too. Wellington got hammered too but most of the houses and buildings are highly 'quake resistant.

Wow Tim, that's big time. So many disasters going on around the world. So many dead fishes and whales. We are living in interesting times, not so easy to adjust to the speed.
