Port Hills on Fire!...

[Rockhopper]

About half of the Port Hills east of Christchurch are burning. The experts believe that the gales there two days ago arced the high tension power lines and started it. Power is off to about two thirds of the city and when I go outside I can smell the smoke (see it too!) Lots of people evacuated from the area.
One chopper pilot had died when his engine choked on the flyash and the chopper crashed.

It is contained now. The fire fighters stopped it only metres away from the suburb of Westmoreland (semi- snobsville).

Forecast is for light rain over the next few days. Still warm but at 25C.

We're cool, a long way from there.
