Yep. The Icelandics use a similar way of preserving fish. Smells something terrible but tastes good in cooking.

Yes, I have seen the same in West Africa, fermented spicy shrimp sauce and fermented corn paste, and it tastes nice!
Kaere Garum is not rotten, it's fermented just like wines are fermented to make wine or barley and hops are fermented to make beer.

The Romans got their toilets etc. from the Minoans Ags. The Minoans had them many years before Rome. And the Minoans on Santorini had hot running water too.

Tim, I need to google it but I remember reading once that toilets were found in stone age settlements, with drains and all! Also Egyptians had good functioning toilets.

They did indeed Ags. The Roman one was a direct copy of the Minoan system though.
