NATO is Building up for War... Empty NATO is Building up for War...

With Russia. The head of NATO General Hodges states that Libya was a "success!" If that is a success then I would hate to see a failure!!

The place is awash with money, as demonstrated by the plush new ECB office building which is costing a fortune.

The original price of the bank’s enormous palace was supposed to be 500 million euros, about 550 million dollars, but the bill has now been admitted as €1.3 billion (£930 m; $1.4 bn). This absurdly over-expensive fiasco was directed by the people who are supposed to steer the financial courses of 18 nations and their half billion unfortunate citizens. If the ECB displays similar skill sets in looking after Europe’s money as it has in controlling the cost of constructing its huge twin-tower headquarters, then Europe is in for a rocky time.

Intriguingly, the Bank isn’t alone in contributing to Europe’s bureaucratic building boom. There is another Europe-based organization of equal ambition, pomposity and incompetence which is building a majestically expensive and luxurious headquarters with a mammoth cost overrun about which it is keeping very quiet indeed.

This is the same ECB that want's to impose deep austerity on Greece, Spain and Italy!! Something is seriously out of whack here!

IF the ECB can subjugate Russia, then they can impose their banking system upon it, replace Putin and others left over from the Cold War with modern Russians, and make Russia a part of the EU but a conquered part....

BUT lest History repeat, they better read about how Invading Russia would take a special touch as the weather, the people, and the sheer size of the place can overwhelm invaders such as Napoleon and Hitler.

I read a few days ago that NATO has been building up militarily next to Russia's eastern border, although Nato announced it is temporarily as it would be against a treaty with Russia if it was permanent.

The tension that's building up with Russia reminds me of what I felt in the 80s, during the cold war... hopefully it won't become a war in 5 or 6 years, like the article says.

But it is annoying how the US and its allies are planning wars and invasions all over the world. Since Iraq things have been getting worse.. and if we go to war with Russia, that would definitely become WWIII.

NATO is a military organisation with a military mindset.

Even a combination of the US and Europe they could never invade Russia. As Len put it, it has been the graveyard of many empires. Mostly it has huge territory and the Russian practice a hit-and-run type of warfare. They fight for a bit then withdraw destroying everything as they go. That way the invaders have nothing to live on and their supply lines become stretched out. That was what stopped Napoleon and Hitler. So much of an invading army is tied up in the supply of the front lines that they can't keep the fight up.

I doubt if it will reach that stage though, cooler mind will prevail. They will just glare at each other but a shooting war won't happen.

Yep Rock they used "Deep Battle" against the Hitler ruled German forces, they thrashed the Wehrmacht, the Waffen SS and the Luftwaffe as they left nothing behind them for the Germans to make use of, let the Rasputitsa mud gum up the invading transports and other vehicles, then the freeze of winter sets it like concrete, Germans were having to spend hours blow torching their bogeywheels and treads out so they could move.

It has been over 70yrs since the last war in Europe, do they really desire repeating History?
Add to the fact that the Russian Military is not as bad off as it was in 1941 when they routed and fled before the Blitzkrieg invasion. Given time, they would also refurbish all the tanks in mothballs they have waiting for such a day as another invasion.

I was told back in 1984 "It is not a good idea to fight Ivan on his home field, he has too many advantages there"

Aye Len. The only people who can survive a Russian winter are the Russians. I know from personal experience what it's like in -60C with another 15C in wind chill. Go outside for a pee and it freezes by the time it hits the ground! The air is so cold it take your breath away! Makes the nth east US winter seem like it's balmy!

Yeah, had a winter like while stationed in Germany, -70 or so below, rubber snow boots and leather boots inside them would have sheets of ice fall to the floor inside as we took the rubbery ones off the leathers! Summer grade Diesel the paraffin balled up into lumps, so I too have felt that kind of cold. Limited our time working outside the barracks.

Imagine spending days outside in those conditions trying to fight a war! More German soldiers were wounded by frostbite than by the Russians! The Russians are used to it and can just go on and on without a problem.

The Russians had the better uniforms for the cold, better weapon lubricant, and also better acclimated everything.
