Strap yourselves in for the megablizzard
2 HOURS AGO JUNE 23, 2014 5:37PM 33 comments

Snow has started to fall in the alpine areas ahead of what is tipped to be the start of a huge snow dump

IT’S here. The megablizzard. Snowpocalypse now.
This baby has been on the weather charts all week and it’s howling its way through the Australian Alps as you read this.

Experienced weather watchers are calling it the storm of the century. They’re saying it could snow on and off, but mostly on, for the next 10 days. The first flakes are already falling as you read this. The megablizzard has arrived.

Extreme Weather High-low-temps-figure1-2014
This figure shows the annual values of the U.S. Heat Wave Index from 1895 to 2013. These data cover the contiguous 48 states. Interpretation: An index value of 0.2 (for example) could mean that 20 percent of the country experienced one heat wave, 10 percent of the country experienced two heat waves, or some other combination of frequency and area resulted in this value.

Extreme Weather High-low-temps-figure4-2014
This map shows trends in unusually hot temperatures at individual weather stations that have operated consistently since 1948. In this case, the term “unusually hot” refers to a daily maximum temperature that is hotter than the 95th percentile temperature during the 1948–2013 period. Thus, the maximum temperature on a particular day at a particular station would be considered “unusually hot” if it falls within the warmest 5 percent of measurements at that station during the 1948–2013 period. The map shows changes in the total number of days per year that were hotter than the 95th percentile. Red upward-pointing symbols show where these unusually hot days are becoming more common. Blue downward-pointing symbols show where unusually hot days are becoming less common.

Jetstream is changing over the east US VM. It was that that pushed the polar vortex southwards last winter. Nth Canada was much warmer than usual then, as the cold air was over the US.

Things are a-changing and not for the better.

Got an infection? try a fever to bake it out, that didn't work? chill em in a nice ice bath, no? toxify the environs to poison it out. Vaccine is not working? anti-biotics, medicines,,,,,,,if not plagues of insects, then plagues in general. IF the Earth is a body, (circulation, breathing etc.) then Humanity in it's over flow is an infection, the weather is a line of defenses to shake it off, next will be toxic air with carbon/methane releases, fossil record also shows sign of sulfur hydroxate or whatever that gas is that is lethally toxic. More virulent plagues that can be spread easily via our airline system.

Insect overloads eating the food, drought to starve dehyrdation to do what drought alone did not. and so much mismanagement of food/water/wealth to make it all worse

It's now official - last month was the warmest June ever recorded in New Zealand.

The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research this afternoon confirmed an "exceptionally warm start to winter", with dozens of climate stations also placing in the top four for the warmest June ever recorded.

That was a cold blast that went through last night. Sleet and hail tapping the roof! Brilliant sunshine today but still a bit of a chill outside.

Ski fields have finally got some snow to play with!
