It could be Rogue, that he thought he came to planet earth with nothing but himself, so he left with himself. Sometime we leave a will and it causes so much breakdown of family life.

A Will lets the family know who he wanted the stuff he had acquired to, as then he felt they may appreciate those items more. If no will, he likely felt none had any appreciation, and that the state could auction it all off for the money.

It's possible he did have a will but it has not been filed with a gov't agency as required or has not been found yet. I also read that sometimes when it comes to large estates or celebrity estates they assign the task of dealing with the estate to a Trust (to avoid prying eyes). I really doubt a man who was so fastidious about other personal affairs would let something like this slide, I think his instructions have just not been found yet.
