WELCOME to Forest City, the residential island more than 10 square kilometres in size, with no cars and lush vegetation.

It’s one of four sand banks built by Malaysia in the narrow sea separating it from Singapore as part of a $60 billion project.

The neighbouring nation is none too happy about the new piece of territory moving towards it, but it too has made plans to artificially expand its territory by 62sq-km.

Building land where once there was only water is becoming surprisingly common, despite its expense, and there are many reasons for doing so

I wonder, are they not concerned about sea levels rising?

Interesting looking place, seems quite planned and contained.

Good point, it is surprising considering sea level rising which is supposed to be particularly evident for asian countries.

Island building is rather new but reclaining land is common. Unfortunately it doesn't bode well when the ground shakes!

It's quite nice looking I think if not perhaps a bit too shiny squeaky clean in the video. I like the idea of having the cars on a different level to everything else

Interesting.... but I couldn't live there. I love the sea but I need land!!

I lived right on the sea, very expensive I can tell you, anything with metal rusting very fast.
