50 dead in Orlando nightclub terror attack

I am a little skeptical how one gunman can kill 50 people and injure 50 without anyone stopping him.

Orlando, Florida (CNN)Approximately 50 people were killed inside Pulse, a gay nightclub, Orlando Police Chief John Mina and other officials said Sunday morning, just hours after a shooter opened fire in what appears to be the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

At least 53 more people were injured, he said. Police have shot and killed the gunman, Mina told reporters.
"It's appears he was organized and well-prepared," the chief said, adding that the shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and "some type of (other) device on him."
Officials warned that a lengthy investigation was ahead, given the number of victims and the scope of the violence.
"There's blood everywhere," U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson told reporters. "There's an enormous amount of evidence to be collected."
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said he had declared a state of emergency for the city and has requested the governor do the same for the state.
Law enforcement sources told CNN that the suspect had possible explosive devices strapped to his body and in his vehicle, but a U.S. official said later that no explosives were found.
At least nine officers were involved in the shootout, Mina said. Several coroner vans were seen traveling toward the nightclub.
One officer suffered an eye injury when a bullet struck his Kevlar helmet, said Danny Banks, special agent in charge of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Orlando bureau. The helmet saved the officer's life, Banks said.

I don't get it, what kind of weapon can shoot so many people without being stopped, when we ARE TOLD THE SWAT TEAM RUSHED HIM.

The swat team wasn't waiting outside the door the second the guy started shooting. Someone had to call 911, then there had to be time before the police arrived, then the swat team had to be called in, then then then. It's not instantaneous. An automatic weapon will mow down people quick as you like, especially if they're dancing to loud music, intoxicated perhaps. It would be very easy.

K, I do not believe most of the media reports, and nothing will change that. They must make up their minds what they report. They tell us the problem started outside and the gunman ran inside, they called the swat team and they intern entered the building trying to save peoples lives. You seem to be making up a story but that is not what they said.

Based on his ability to inflict so much carnage, including police responders, and the potential firepower, he may be a recent well trained veteran who snapped and used a dual drum fed weapon, which allows high firepower. Years back, the Obama Administration was spewing data of ex-soldiers as potential terror threats, mainly a stab in the back to veterans. Now being as he may have been ISIS trained, and armed, that may also answer some things.

But yeah, most assault weapons of military grade can have drum feeds, dual drum feeds, and even belt fed via a box that hangs from the weapon as it spits bullets and spent shells.

Had he grenades they would have mentioned that as he would have used them.

Now in America, we have had lone wolf terror attacks, usually white neo-nazis for the most part, or insane right wing religious nutters. This guy may be a loner, or he may be the tip of an iceberg. It still plays to the fear mongers running this primary season. Trump will chime in so will Killary, Bernie may speak, and I am unsure hat response if any Jill Stein may add.

UPDATE, 10:39 a.m.: The AP is now reporting at least 50 casualties, including shooter, and 53 hospitalized in mass shooting at Orlando nightclub.

A gunman wielding an assault-type rifle and a handgun opened fire inside a crowded gay nightclub early Sunday, killing at least 50 people before dying in a gunfight with SWAT officers, police said. It was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Authorities were investigating the attack on the Florida dance club as an act of terrorism. The gunman’s father recalled that his son recently got angry when he saw two men kissing in Miami and said that might be related to the assault.

Multiple news outlets reported that the shooter had called 911 shortly before the attack and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. Those reports cited unnamed law enforcement officials.

At least 53 people were hospitalized, most in critical condition, officials said. A surgeon at Orlando Regional Medical Center said the death toll was likely to climb.

“There’s blood everywhere,” Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said.

All of the dead were killed with the assault rifle, according to Rep. Alan Grayson.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene when the gunfire began shortly before the club known as Pulse was to close.

That's the point Rogue, how can you sell any type of guns to people you don't know of their background. I am a bit tired of this stupidity and hypocrisy, who is Isis? One can always blame an entity without a head. It always seem to be the same pattern, while innocent young people lose their lives.

Checks and balances are great and all, gun control and interviews and waiting periods and licensing and such. Even if they had those things in place in the US, someone is always going to slip through the cracks

Stupid imo that an automatic type weapon is available for civilians to purchase in the first place. That's not hunting and that's not self-defense and it's not even target practicing. Those kinds of weapons are built for only one reason and they should NOT be available for purchase.
