‘Mystical’ Bees and Snakes
‘Mystical’ bees and snakes are killing Boko Haram insurgents
6 HOURS AGO JUNE 27, 2014 4:36PM
BOKO Haram insurgents believe the ghosts of their victims are coming back to murder them in the form of killer bees and snakes.
Nigerian newspaper Vanguard is reporting that several Boko Haram insurgents were arrested after fleeing a Nigerian forest because unremitting bee stings and snake bites had become too unbearable.
The captured militants claimed they were “mystical bees” and “mysterious snakes” that had killed many of the fellow insurgents.
“We were told that the aggrieved people who had suffered from our deadly mission, including the ghosts of some of those we killed, are the ones turning into the snake and bees,” one militant told Vanguard.
“Our leaders fled, too.”
Boko Haram sympathisers have risen to notorious prominence in 2014 with the capture of 223 Nigerian schoolgirls, who were never returned to their families.
The bees and snakes are apparently feared not only for their lethal poisons but their ability to make people disappear.
“We decided to flee when almost all our comrades are leaving the Sambisa [Forest] because of constant attacks by snakes and bees, which we were told was as a result of Chibok abducted schoolgirls,” another added.
While the bees and snakes may be doing their job to clear a few out of the forests, it still hasn’t stopped the militant group’s violence in Nigeria.

I had a dream once...it showed the planet as a living single entity...the animals and insects were its fingers and hands

Nigeria is a strange patch! The people have a weird belief in religion and mythology, often combining the two. The Voodoo belief in Haiti comes from Nigeria where the original slaves there came from.
Boko Haram have a similar mix of Islam and Mythology too.

My grandmother apparently used to say she was going to come back as a bee.
Doesn't add much to the conversation but there it is lol.

Maybe it's some sort of subconscious manifestation of guilt. Bees seem to sting if they smell fear, and if your busy watching bees then your not keeping an eye out for snakes. Might explain why only some of Boko Haram were affected as well.

Tim, there is a whole lot hiding behind the Boko Haram saga. If you have not been following it from the beginning it is quite difficult to understand.
I also believe the Haitian peoples have been stigmatized, their sacred ritual demonized, and ridiculed. Africa is indeed not easy to understand, but nor is the USA, or Europe.

Can't argue with that Star! Boko Haram are a break-away bunch of Whahabbi Shia that started in Somalia. The Whahabbi are very extreme Islamists and Boko are even more so. They have mixed bush magic with a distorted version of Islam.
In Haiti the Voodoo sects have been and still are very stigmatised by the local Catholic Church.
African bees are nasty little critturs at the best of times, very protective of their hives and will attack anything or anyone who goes near. The African black snake is also very aggressive too, especially when they are disturbed.

I see you have been following the line. A lot of people do not know the bottom of the problem and so take the view of the reports they read. There is also the aspect of the rejection of western education, they believe it is contrary to the teaching of the Koran. There is also another aspect of the Nigerian politics, this has to do with the signing of the contract between African states and the European Partnership Agreement (EPA) Nigeria has rejected the agreement to the distaste of the EU and most African states are following suite.. So much going on.

The whole of Africa is a basketcase politically and the direct cause is/was Europe and it's colonies in the past. The land was divided up without a thought of tribal aspects. The Britz and the Belgians were the worst.
The comment I was making was about how an extreme Islamist group can still hold onto the Bush Magical beliefs.

Tim, they have nothing else to feed on. This problem has been there before the Biafran war, it is very strange that it is now being addressed.
