The Hobby Lobby Ruling Empty The Hobby Lobby Ruling

This latest ruling from the Supreme Court could be best described as a kick in the uterus for women in the US...

The Supreme Court waited until the very end to deliver its most hotly anticipated decision of the term: declaring in a 5-4 ruling that for-profit companies can use religious objections to avoid paying for contraception coverage required under Obamacare.

The sharply divided result in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby immediately touched off a wave of analysis and speculation about how large a hole the court put in the side of President Barack Obama’s signature health care law — just two years after Chief Justice John Roberts sided with liberals to save the measure’s individual mandate from legal oblivion.
However it does raise several other questions, as undoubtably a lot of other corps have been keeping an eye on this. Realistically it sets precedence for Corporations to:
Avoid paying for blood transfusions and possibly skin grafts (JW's)
Avoid paying for treatments originating in pigs...insulin springs to mind (Muslim, Jews)
Avoid paying for any contraception treatments (Catholic)
Avoid paying (or hiring) homosexuals (Westboro Church)

Slippery slope really. Will this mean that your employers can track you through facebook, and then fire you because of religious disagreements of who you hang out with, bands you like, political affiliation etc?

The other question is if this ruling also applies to Corporations that have skipped out of the country to avoid paying tax (Pfizer spring to mind).

About the only bright speck of light in this tunnel, is the arguement that if Corporations have the same rights as humans and have religious beliefs, then by definition this means they also have morals and ethics, and thus should be punished (and if needed, killed) for law-breaking, eco-cide etc.

Aye Mordman, we watch the crap going on there with some bemusement!

The purpose of a corporate personhood was simply for tax purposes not anything else. But in the US it's become a political issue. I am amazed at the way religious nutters there can get so much control. None of those Judges would last long here fortunately.

But here in America, single payer health care is a the bogeyman! "Socialism!" I swear, we as a population allow ourselves to vote the numpties into office rather than actually enforced service of intelligent, and I mean actually intelligent people to rule and then grab the next batch of competents and have them do their time in service.

Instead of good leaders we get religious nuts, warmongers, corrupt money weasels, sociopaths and psychos to rule us mixed in with true morons.

The problem is Len, we have good people who would do a much better job but they don't want to have to put up with the crap.

The end result is we get the slime-munchers and bottom-feeders in control. Most of them are just parasites sucking the blood from ordinary people.

I know, sadly we can't have it where the good serve and then get released from public service
Public service, something the meaning of which has been lost on these parasites
