Yup Aussie is quite good, NZ is 4th, not surprising as the National Govt. has been underfunding it for several years.
Election in Sept so maybe a change?

I imagine how great the NHS would be if it was funded properly, instead of being underfunded and understaffed!
I have met lots of British nurses that have lived and worked in Australia, and many say the Aussie one is actually better medically, but not as socially equal as the UK.
Do you guys have socialized healthcare like us?
And K, thank you, I am wholly responsible for the outcome of this survey....... hahahaha

Ours is a Single Payer System Ags similar to the NHS and tax funded. We also have a meds buying dept called 'Pharmac' that buys the drugs and they say to the companies, "This is how much we will pay for your product and if you don't agree we will use a Generic."
I think Aus and Canada have a similar system.

Yep very similar in oz. We have Medicare for doctors and hospital, PBS for meds all mainly paid through a medicare levy through our taxes.

Our drugs are not covered, if you've got a private insurance plan you can usually get 80% covered (most employers offer these cause they can get group rates, but there are some available to unemployed or seniors). No insurance plan, then you bear the cost of drugs yourself.
Dentists are also not covered except through a private insurance plan as above.

We also have to pay for dentists and meds, unless you are unemployed, disable or a pensioner.

It sounds so impressive that all of you have well functioning health care systems, leads me to the questions of, don't you have any uninsured people that cannot afford health care? Are there working low income people that cannot afford health care?

The answer to that is... no. Some of our provinces offer healthcare for no fee, some of our provinces require a monthly fee (I think I pay $30 per month for the family). Anyone who cannot afford the fee is covered by the province and frankly, no one is turned away from our hospitals because of inability to pay. Ever.

Same as Kaere's answer: no. In Europe healthcare is free and available to all, regardless of income or whether they pay taxes or not. This is how it should be in every democratic country.
The US is one of the richest countries in the world and yet its healthcare is only for those who can afford it, just like in third world countries...... well, some of them, Argentina has free universal healthcare too.
