Something weird happened last night.

So, as you know I am not a big believer of ghosts etc. My daughter, who is 14, is a total non-believer just like her mother, an agnostic/atheist who likes evidence to believe.... well, until last night. 

Sofia  (and Elsa the kitty) were both sleeping in my bed. It was 1 AM and I was fast asleep (worked a long shift on Sunday and was going to work today too). My bed faces the door and the door was closed. 

At 1am my daughter was still awake (enjoying her last night of freedom before going back to school on Tuesday) and was chatting with her friend when the door suddenly opened, quickly like somebody opened it... but nobody was there. She then saw a shadow move from the left (the upstairs bathroom) to the right (the other rooms and stairs).

She got absolutely freaked out and confused  by it because nobody else was up and because she doesn't believe in the paranormal...... perhaps this is the evidence we both needed?

The house had been unoccupied for a looong time before I bought it and an elderly couple lived here. The house has a good vibe actually....so I don't know how I'll sleep tonight. lol

That makes me smile spirits sometimes appear to me as shadows as well.

I'll give you my thoughts a bit later - but because there is a good vibe in your house, I don't feel you have anything to worry about. I can tell you later how I do psychic protections but right now I'm at work and I can't take too much time...

The house felt friendly from the very first time we came to see it when they were selling it and by what we have heard the old lady died here (hubby is in a care home right now).

This was their family home and I think they loved it very much... but now I am also freaked out... and proud of my girl who was sleeping next to me and yet didn't want to wake me up because I was going to work again.... that's love

I remember many years ago, in a different house, I saw two shadows walk through my bedroom. Such a very weird feeling, but I never did see it again after that time.

I think your good vibe about the place is your best indicator, and sounds like you have nothing to worry about. Its just quite unsettling though isnt it.

Wow, interesting read!! Sounds like it would definitely seem scary at first, would certainly freak me out to witness something like that! 

It must be very scary to witness anything moving by itself. Personally I've witnessed a door opening by itself one night, but I was one of several people in the room at the time(House party), so at least it wasn't a scary environment. I've also felt feelings and heard noises in other situations, but I've never seen a moving shadow yet - that would really frighten me I think.

Interesting that this happened at 1AM, because apparently the early hours of the morning are the time when we're most likely to see a ghost or otherwise experience paranormal activity.

Sounds like what K and Rogue say though, the good vibe which the place has is the best barometer of the nature of the paranormal activity. Sounds like it definitely isn't bad, because you would've experienced bad vibes in the house long before now if it was... Sounds to me like it must actually be quite friendly

I am still disturbed by this because my daughter witnessed it, and she still is pretty shaken.... my girl does not believe in the paranormal, or at least she didn't until Sunday night. There is no explanation for the door to swung open like that, as it closes properly and you have to move the handle right down to open. And you certainly need some kind of force to open it so quickly.

I agree with you lot saying the positive vibes are an indicator of the friendly atmosphere in the house but we are all now sort of on alert when we go to bed, to see if we see or hear anything again. If I do I'll definitely let you know. 

My daughter said that the shadow was probably the old lady that died, coming to check that we are ok, just like I do sometimes in the middle of the night, check that my babies are all fine.

I agree it's probably the old lady who passed away... to my way of thinking though, she's probably waiting for or looking for her husband. She may not even be aware of all you - or is just vaguely aware. Do you know how long ago it was since she passed?

For protection or to feel more secure, there are several things you can do:

- you can create a bubble of light around you and your home. Imagine a bright white light just behind your bellybutton - then imagine it expanding to surround you and your surroundings. State your intention that you are safe and that nothing with ill-intent can approach your light.

- if you feel the lady's presence, you can speak out loud and ask her to please try to not cause alarm in the home, explain that your daughter is feeling particularly alarmed. The lady will likely back away.

- you can ask your spirit team to keep you safe and secure and you can also ask them to help the lady keep her distance.

I'd say that's a good start... if things change we can go from there.


You might also want to check what is on the second floor directly above the door - perhaps someone was walking in just the right spot and the weight shifted the door somehow. Unless you are positive that the latch clicked in completely when the door was closed, these kind of more 'mundane' explanations are always possible.

My bedroom is on the second floor, there's nothing above it, just the roof. We tried to leave the door closed but not properly and it opened slowly and only 2 inches. The corridor outside the bedroom is noisy, in fact one of the jobs I'll have to do in the future is to change the wood as it's too creaky now.... which means it is impossible for someone to play a prank and move away without being heard, impossible (I thought of that and thought of my boys, but they were actually sleeping and they are big lads, no way they could walk away unheard lol). 

Thank you for the advice, I'll speak to my daughter about it tomorrow (she is already asleep). I think the one I would go for right now is talking to the lady if we 'see'  her again, I know her name.... but fingers crossed it was a one time only occurrence.

Hope things are back to normal in your house Aggie, and hope the same thing hasn't happened again and won't do anymore. In my experience, when something scary has happened at night(Usually nightmares in my case), it takes a few nights to completely relax again after it, but it always comes as a nice surprise how quickly you can do

You are absolutely right... but then the thoughts never leaves your head completely when you are in bed with your door open and you stare at the dark corridor in front of you...and me wanting to buy an old castle... lol

Yeah, that’s a good point! Old castles are probably the scariest places for that kind of thing happening!

I guess that over time the fear naturally disappears, but that doesn’t make it any easier in the short term, when the memory is still fresh and hasn’t had a proper chance to dissipate.
