A car is a hollow structure so although its heavy it as relatively low volumetric density
compared to lets say the ground/soil. Sand bags stop bullets because the sand does not compress etc. A car in a crash compresses tears appart ect. When a car is dropped from a plane or thrown from a trebuchet it crashes on the ground but does not penetrate it.
If a passenger jet were to crash on normal land nose first, would it crash into debris scattered on the ground or would it penetrate the earth and dissapear like a bugs bunny cartoon?
