Well, football is back and fans are allowed to watch the game, so why not the Olympics? They should just reduce the numbers and make sure there is a good distance between spectators (+masks etc).

I think it's too late to cancel them anyway.. and I know locals have been protesting against them because it means looots of people from foreign countries visiting.

For the Japanese people I am sorry to see there is no requirement placed on visiting athletes to be vaccinated, and no requirement for them to declare whether they are or not.

I’ve not actually been following this too closely yet as the Olympics are still weeks away, but apparently there has been a major push to vaccinate the athletes and their teams after a deal was struck with Pfizer:

Also - and this has been a featured item on The Daily Social Distancing Show this week - the athletes are being given condoms as usual ahead of the event but are being encouraged to keep them as souvenirs instead of using them:

OMG politics and stupidity have always been there, eh? Games of peace and yet they would not invite all countries.........

They (Japan) have now announced there will have no spectators during the games.

I was thinking the same kind of thing, even on seeing the thumbnail, before I’d watched the video itself - that looks so familiar in various ways. Talk about history repeating!
On a more positive note, it shows how quickly we can bounce back from pandemics.

The games begin in a few days time and already they are looking like ending in tatters! I really hope not.

I guess we’ll see what happens, LOL! But it sounds the organisational side hasn’t been great, which is the last thing the Olympics need during a pandemic like this one.
Hope they’ll still go ahead as planned.

Well it all seemed to go off very well. Now today the Paralympics have begun. Hope they also go just as well, as I understand Tokyo itself is still very bad with covid.
