Potential Fall of Democracy
Maybe not so surprising from what we've seen recently, but certainly somewhat of a sobering thought for the rest of us.

Re: Potential Fall of Democracy
Scary... especially for Canadians!
Democracy in the US started approx 200 years ago, but the division between people has always been there: a clear gap between the right wing and the socialist/liberals. A Gap between the self entitled white people (obvs not all of them, but all right wing supporters are white) and the rest of the population, even those that are native to the land.
Tension is also rising in the UK and for the same reason, but luckily guns are not legal like in the US!
Civil wars have happened in many countries and the main causes can be seen in the US and UK right now.
Add climate change to that and we are definitely living in scary times.

Re: Potential Fall of Democracy
Aggie makes a great point. Basically the USA is built on foundations which have never been completely stable, but in recent times that instability has been increasing and the cracks spreading through the overall structure are starting to become more and more apparent.
I think there’s also an added problem here that people are forgetting history and how it repeats itself. It might not be obvious on the surface, but this is eerily reminiscent of the events in Europe which eventually led to World War II. The political unrest, the right wing surge, the brainwashing of people into mindlessly supporting a dictator, against a backdrop of multiple social and economic issues.
But this has the potential to be even worse if it does blow up, because of the nuclear weapons the US has.
It is scary for Canada, definitely - and for the rest of the world, if this situation really is this bad and can’t be addressed.
There’s still nearly 3 years till the next scheduled election, so I hope the warnings being made now aren’t too late to make a difference.

Re: Potential Fall of Democracy
I’m glad Biden has given his speech today, on the first anniversary of the Capitol atrocity, condemning the attack:

It’s good to see that he fully understands the importance of condemning any attack on democracy too.

Re: Potential Fall of Democracy
The Corporate States of Oligarchia is basically deciding if it wants to remain an Oligarchic republic, or go full tilt Fascist Dictatorship. And not satisfied with that, the wealthy who want things their way are seeking to Americanize UK's National Health and they will also infect Canada and other nations with the potentially lethal Insurance run health-scam.

This is why Scotland needs to become independent and rejoin the EU, it's the only protection against private health companies.
