Re: Coloured Noise
Wow, very interesting... and I've never heard of brown noise! I will listen to brown noise tonight and I will let you know if it makes a difference.
Apparently it is a low frequency type of noise that resembles lots of rain or a river, and I usually find those sounds relaxing... I am not a fan of white noise.

Re: Coloured Noise
I’ve listened to white noise on a YouTube video - an electric fan white noise video, with headphones on to help block out other noise - for more than 2 years now, whenever noise in the environment has stressed me out too much. I’ve posted the video here too. I’ve found it very beneficial.
I’ve not tried listening to brown noise or pink noise yet, so am not sure if I’d like them as much. But I find white noise brilliant, very relaxing.
Great article!

Re: Coloured Noise
Lion, white noise actually irritates me, it reminds me of the static TV noise from the 80s/90s and for some reason it doesn't go well with me.... funny how different we all are.
Rogue, I fell asleep before I remembered to play the noise!

Re: Coloured Noise
I still have to listen to the pink, but the white isn't good for me either. The brown seems okay. I do usually leave my radio going at night but it's very quiet and I can hardly hear it but seems to do the job.

Re: Coloured Noise
Day 2 of the experiment: fell asleep without the brown noise... again LOL
I also haven't listened to the pink one yet, I mostly prefer rain or storm noises to sleep (if I don't fall asleep before I start the podcasts).
I can't sleep with the radio on, no matter how low the volume, unless they are playing tunes for meditation or sleeping.

Re: Coloured Noise
Weird I know, but my radio noise needs to be more talk than music. Go figure
Tried the pink, but not for me either.

Re: Coloured Noise
Falling asleep with people talking in the background reminds me of falling asleep during parties when I was very young, or falling asleep in the car on long journeys, with the adults talking in the background.... that kind of talking background noise makes me feel secure and protected.
Is it the same with you?

Re: Coloured Noise
That's a very good point, that could well be it. I can easily switch off and relax unlike if music was playing.

Re: Coloured Noise
I’m inclined to agree with this as well, there’s something very comforting about hearing human voices in the background - as long as it’s something which I’ve initiated myself, like a podcast or a YouTube video.
It feels very positive and relaxing, somehow.
