I know that a lot of us here have alternative type housing already with varying levels of self-sufficiency... has anyone had any experience with building or living in an 'Earthship'?
I find the whole idea of it quite fascinating but I'm not sure I would like living amongst all that rubber tire material, a packed earth home (or cob, really) would be more my style.

Never been in an Earthship house. There are a few Cob houses here and a lot more down in Central Otago.
One could always go underground like they do at Coober Pedy, Aust.

Haven't tried it yet Kaere, it's on the 15 year plan once I get a bit more land. Theoretically it wouldn't be all that much different from a packed earth home, all the rubber would be covered by the interior and exterior finishing, just more insulated.
