Earthquake in my backyard

I have never before heard of an earthquake in this area that's been reported. Says in the article that it's quite an unusual magnitude for hereabouts. Also mentions that some of the bigger earthquakes have been linked to oil & gas production.

A 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit central Alberta Saturday morning, according to Natural Resources Canada.
The agency's earthquake monitoring website says the earthquake hit at 9:28 a.m. MT and was lightly felt in Rocky Mountain House, a town of roughly 7,000 people that is located west of Red Deer between Edmonton and Calgary.
"There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected," the agency said on its website.

Not usual for there Ka. That bit of dirt is usually very stable. Maybe fracking had something to do with it?
NZ is used to 'quakes but not of the intensity of the ones that whacked Chch.

Hmm... I can't be sure they do any fracking here, should look into it. Most activity is your ordinary kind of drilling and of course the oil sands but that's about eight hours northeast of the epicentre of this one.
We do have earthquakes here, it's quite close to the Rockies after all... it's just that they aren't generally reportable or felt.
I do tend to keep an eye on kiwi earthquakes because of the whole pacific ring of fire thing, I grew up looking for connections... an earthquake there, will it affect here? what about Japan? etc etc... I can't imagine living with them being so frequent though - I've felt a few in my day but even so!
Nice link btw
