Authorities say a pair of deer on the Golden Gate bridge snarled traffic in and out of San Francisco during the evening commute.

The California Highway Patrol tells the San Francisco Chronicle that the deer were in the busier northbound lanes leading out of the city toward Marin County on Friday evening at about 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

The deer briefly halted the evening commute as drivers slowed to give them space.

By 6 p.m., the officers on the way to the scene were called off because the deer were no longer in the road.

CHP Officer William Ogilvie tells the Chronicle that it's not uncommon for calls about "animal hazards" to work themselves out before the officers arrive because animals don't like traffic any more than humans do.

There are places in Russia where the forest areas are fenced off for that very reason. When I first saw them I wondered why the fences went along the road on both sides.

In some parts there are tunnels that the road goes through with a continuation of the forest over the top so the animals can cross from one place to another.

It was to stop bears and deer from getting squished on the road knowing the madness of Russian drivers!

Yup, we've got animal highways too, overpasses and underpasses. I think Russian drivers don't have the monopoly on ridiculous driving haha... although, I have seen some crazy stuff on youtube

Still... this is in the middle of a huge city

Seen a few moose in the city over the years. I saw a young moose once, as I was walking down the walk going back to work after lunch. Just running down the side of a street, beside the rv sales place and the lumber yard. That's what happens when a green belt goes through your city.
