Tom Perkins and the Right to Vote...
Our Tommy voiced his opinion that if you pay $1 Million in tax you should get 1 million votes. It shows just how divorced the wealthy are from reality!

Tom Perkins suggested Thursday that only taxpayers should have the right to vote -- and that wealthy Americans who pay more in taxes should get more votes.
The venture capitalist offered the unorthodox proposal when asked to name one idea that would "change the world" at a speaking engagement in San Francisco moderated by Fortune's Adam Lashinsky.
"The Tom Perkins system is: You don't get to vote unless you pay a dollar of taxes," Perkins said.
"But what I really think is, it should be like a corporation. You pay a million dollars in taxes, you get a million votes. How's that?"
The audience at the Commonwealth Club reacted with laughter. But Perkins offered no immediate indication that he was joking. Asked offstage if the proposal was serious, Perkins said: "I intended to be outrageous, and it was."

Who is Tom Perkins? Seems to me just from that paragraph that his statement was made for the shock value of an "outrageous" idea, tongue in cheek so to speak. It's true anyway lol it would change the world.

Sadly many wealthy would take that at face value and believe that they ought to have more vote power with their dollars, just look at the Koch Brothers for that ethic.

I don't believe that for a moment, Lenzabi. Wealth does not indicate stupidity any more than poverty does. I think it's best I stay out of these discussions.

Not saying it does, but the greed factor can over ride common sense at times. There would be those who would want to believe that money equals speach, which thanks to a Supreme Court Ruling, McCutcheon, it does in America, add in our "Citizens United" effort funded by the Koch Brothers, along with the "Tea-Party" they bought up and the idea that some rich and highly wealthy people seek to make the nation their own personal playground with poor serfs for their benefit, or amusement.
In a sad actuality, many wealthy barely ever have to interact with the rest of Humanity, the other wealthy, their servants, their wealthy friends' servants, maybe the not as rich executives of their businesses.
It is not so much a form of stupidity as disconnect as it is as if the wealthy live in a different, yet parallel world to the rest of humanity.

Tom Perkins is a self-made man and good on him for doing so. He is known for making outrageous statements for effect and this is one of them. What he's saying here is that the wealthy should have to power to rule over the 'Great un-washed masses'.
For a Democracy to work it needs a free and open media, and transparency in political donations. When some-one donates $100.00 to a political party it's just a donation. When some-one donates $100,000.00 they want something! This is why transparency is so important, so that voters can see who is donating huge amounts and why. In other words the voters can see what the agenda is.
