States Rights! Very Happy

With the federal government engaged in a de facto unconstitutional occupation of some two thirds of Utah’s territory, citizens of the state and their elected representatives have had just about enough. So, on December 31, the State of Utah is formally demanding that Washington, D.C., relinquish control over more than 30 million acres of valuable land currently controlled by various federal bureaucracies.

While apparatchiks for an all-powerful U.S. government and far-left activists are fuming over the plan, Utah lawmakers, citizens, and experts say the time has come for the state to manage — and profit from — its own resources. Constitutionally speaking, experts say the lands should have gone to state control generations ago, as the federal government promised when Utah became a state.

The escalating battle now brewing between the feds and Utah formally got underway in in 2012, when Republican Gov. Gary Herbert, riding a wave of public outrage over federal abuses and land grabs, signed the popular Transfer of Public Lands Act. Among other elements, the law calls on the federal government to hand over control of public lands purportedly owned by the U.S. government within Utah’s borders.

It will still end poorly, I live in a corporatized, business butt kissing state, and the people get zilch and do not profit from it, just the wealthy tycoons who decided to muck it up, so we have coal issues, as in mine rain run-off which is highly acidic, coal dust all over, coal cleaning chems leaked into water supplies. Utah will also fall prey to the uber wealthy elites as they gobble up those lands and wreck them, whilst the people of Utah are still not allowed to even go on former park-lands due to private security driving them away for some Koch like corporation unwilling to share the wealth with them, soon Utah will become a trash heap once the resources are messily extracted and toxic dumps pop up all over it.

I repeat, few in Utah will actually get any profits from the lands as they get sold off to international corporations.

Very, and illustrates what I was saying. The folks wanting Utah lands for Utah not federal management would sell it all off for a royalty from filthy tar sands and other exploitation and leave Utah Ugly, toxic, and unhealthy

I live where they let the Coal industry tear up mountain tops for what? a inch thin or so layer of coal that will still burn w/o tar sands to kick it off? this place is prime real estate for windmills, but coal is afraid as the wind collectors would allow people jobs with stability placing them up, and then keeping them in good repair.
