Irate Christian parent: ‘I am getting sick and tired of dinosaurs being forced on our children’


A user on the parenting forum Mumsnet has been banned for hijacking conversations with complaints about “the dinosaur hoax” and its effects on children, KTRK reports.

Writing under the name “CADministry” — “CAD” being a reference to a Facebook advocacy group to which the writer belongs called “Christians Against Dinosaurs” — the mother began by complaining that “I am getting sick and tired of dinosaurs being forced on our children.”

“Something needs to be done,” she continued. “The science behind them is pretty flimsy, and I for one do not want my children being taught lies. Did you know that nobody had even heard of dinosaurs before the 1800s, when they were invented by curio-hungry Victorians?”

Where are we bashing Christians? We are commenting on the beliefs of a strange woman who wants to impose her distorted beliefs on others. She is entitled to her POV just as we are entitled to ridicule it.

What saddens me is that she is imposing her beliefs onto her children rather than letting them find things out for themselves. That is borderline child abuse!

You know that dinosaurs are just a gateway to the harder stuff though. One day your children are watching Walking With Dinosaurs then suddenly they're onto the hard stuff and reading The Origin of Species.

Sadly it's not just her that is dead against this sort of thing, there is an awful lot of people that are against children being taught science and anything about evolution.

Children should be free to make there own minds up about 'their' world. Of course we don't all agree with every possibility there is out there, and we all believe in different things, but children should not be brainwashed by their parents or teachers. They should be free to explore and come up with their own ideas.

We all live in the cycle, it is extremely difficult to break away from it. We live in a world of slaves that believe they are free.

True.... but what would you do about it, Len?

For the sake of our world to get brilliant minds to actually feel they can be brilliant (Many are crushed by the present system), schools should be a place of not just cramming things to be remembered and regurgitate, but also thinking about things, creativity, and open objective discussions, and how to do critical thinking. Right now blind obedience helps make slaves, not individuals who are masters of their own destinies. Slaves who take most of their pay to shelter, clothe and feed themselves thinking that they are the freest people on Earth. Hell, even the European political systems offer far more choices than we get, we get to decide for the most part between the pro corporates who will screw you over while making you feel safe, when really you are not, or the pro coporate who at least will toss a crumb your way while the first is trying to take that crumb back.

BUT with schools that actually help expand the mind's horizons, not stultify, that teach critical thinking and observation, who also teach objectivity before hitting University, then at least we would have people who could all see the BS they have landed us in and demand that it end, restore the greatness and tax the rich, rebuild the bridges and roads and libraries and make single payer health care and stop handing tax dollars ouit to those who do NOT need it, and regulate the banks and corporates so they do not destroy the ecology and the economic environment as has been allowed to happen, we may even wind up with politicians who can actually see past their own agendas and do what is practical and right for all not just a few.
