More Gas Craters in Siberia...
Some more methane craters have appeared in siberia, four so far and more being discovered all the time.

Yup and they are bigger than ours Roggie.
We are sure that they are methane discharges LGR caused by the permafrost warming up.

Global what???
The unusually cold and snowy winter in southern New England has broken records and resulted in many indellible images, from collapsed roofs to massive snow farms and a frozen Hudson River in New York. Now, a new iconic image of the winter of 2014-15 can be added to the mix: slush waves.

Global what?
The eastern half of the United States has been trapped in a deep freeze for most of February 2015. Hundreds (maybe thousands) of records have been set for daily low temperatures, and wave after wave of ice and snowstorms have hit the region. The coldest days of the year usually occur in January, yet February 2015 has been exceptional in many places.

Re: More Gas Craters in Siberia...
LGR this has been explained to you many times if you choose to ignore it that is your choice.
I'll try again:
Global Warming/Climate Change means that some parts of the world will get hotter and dryer other parts will get wetter and even other parts will get colder. The physics are simple; as oceans warm the currents that move that heat around, change. That alters the weather over the parts of the world where the currents arrive at.
As air gets hotter it holds more moisture that causes more precipitation (rain and snow) as the climate balances itself out again.
The Big Freeze in the northeast US is because the north Atlantic Ocean is getting warmer and that warmth is melting the ice in the Arctic Sea. That is causing the Polar Vortex that normally stays around the Arctic Sea to move south by changing the jet streams over that continent.
"The coldest days of the year usually occur in January, yet February 2015 has been exceptional in many places."
That is an example of how Climate Change works, expect more of them.
The warming of the Permafrost is caused by the warming of the Arctic region. Which in turn is caused by the warming of the Atlantic. That warmth is warming up the permafrost in northern Siberia and Alaska.

Yup, Climate Change.
Throw out the term Global Warming.

Re: More Gas Craters in Siberia...
Either one fits. The climate is warming on average around the world. That is causing unusual weather patterns.

Basically, we will be farted to death with the release of so much methane

This series goes into the Climate Change/Global Warming debate.

You really get off on this, eh.
You start with Gas Craters in Siberia and spin it into Global Warming. Very tricky-dicky rockie.

Re: More Gas Craters in Siberia...
What part of it don't you understand without getting personal LGR?
The Gas Craters in Siberia are caused by the Permafrost warming up and releasing the methane. The Permafrost is warming because the climate is warming and we are the probable cause. That has been substantiated by many eminent people who have spent a lifetime of study on the subject. not the words of some whacky fringe "Expert" like Moncton for example. Who has connections to the Fossil Fuel and Energy Sectors.
If you actually watch Potholers series right through with an open mind you will see how the Climatologists have come the the conclusions they have and how the detractors have been distracting and discrediting the real Scientists.

Re: More Gas Craters in Siberia...
I figure the science is that the warming, without the snow as a buffer, or the sun gets thru, the methane reacts to the slight increase and explodes outwards, in the siberian sea, methane is slowly bubbling up as the bottom of that area warms now and releases the Metahnbe down there, just on "dry land" the permafrost pockets are reacting tot the rise on temperatures which is warming the permafrost. Yes there is still some ice showing, but seriously, look at the size of those pockets that blew outwards.

Re: More Gas Craters in Siberia...
Yes Len it is.
What some don't realise is that whilst the nth East of the US is going through a big freeze Siberia and Alaska are experiencing weather that is positively balmy and that is playing a part in these eruptions. It's curious to note that these land eruptions only started in the last few years. There is no record of Gas Craters in Siberia prior to 2004.

Re: More Gas Craters in Siberia...
I am wondering if the Alaskan permafrost has also had such blasts? or is the methane seeping through?
