Is it our soul? our spirit?
Is it our brain? Our awareness?
Is it a neurological stimulation?
Is it something we can test and prove in a scientific way?
Or something that we can only perceive intuitively?

I see it as more an alignment of several of the factors that Agartha listed, Soul/spirit/awareness/observations of the world around us, our dealing with the information. One may be aware of things, but chose to ignore them for self gratification, thus rendering the self less conscious.

In other words, the empathy and out reach of the Soul must align with the fortitude and attitude of spirit which in turn focuses awareness so that what information is observed may help awaken consciousness to the issues of the world and society in such a way as to help awaken others to the situations which help forge consciousness and awaken more possibilities in each of us.

Being self-aware and aware of others is part of it. Processing and sorting information coming in from our senses too.

I think you are all correct, I also see it as many factors combined... I don't think you can actually pinpoint it easily.

But to me consciousness is a spiritual thing and I always 'see it' as linked to my soul.

Let me explain something to you: communication happens on so many different levels... verbal, non verbal, paralanguage, phatic communication, written, etc etc

So when you say communication you better explain exactly what you mean by that because COMMUNICATION IS NOT A LANGUAGE and my question was about LANGUAGE. Languages are a tool for communication, one of many tools.
