I was thinking the dry conditions is owing to climate change, not so much that there are always fires. To be honest, I have been following it and I must say, it's horrific, and it seems to be spreading so fast almost impossible to stop.
I am reminded of the refugees fleeing the Syrian war. I know the Canadians will come to their rescue, they are always willing to help each other.
It really saddens me.

A little bit of good news today, winds are pushing the fire towards the northeast which is less populated and has already been evacuated. Although along with that means the fire is looking to increase in size again, I think they're predicting it to go to 2000+ sq km's (3x the size of Edmonton)... now that there's less threat to life I'm finding some of the info to be interesting. Here's some perspective on size (the red representing square footage of the fire) Smile

I agree, Star... we are always willing and ready to help out. I think it's like that everywhere though, there may be those who are unwilling but for the most part, we want to help each other. The same happens in Australia and the UK and other disaster areas around the world Smile

The area on fire is massive!!!! (looking at the maps you posted, K).
How sad to loose all those beautiful trees....... I hope they will find the cause soon.

It's pretty big that's for sure... heading towards the Saskatchewan border today.

I thought this was quite cute... about the crazy things people grabbed in their panic to evacuate. Cheese slices and snow pants Razz

LOL humans are funny creatures!
Besides my children and furry baby, I would grab my books and pics, anything else I don't care, it can be replaced.

Thats for sure, humans are really very unique, when you think of it the animals they just run without taking anything for themselves, even the young have to fend for self. Just imagine how many small insects, microbes, small animals, rats, trees have lost their lives. We tend most time to forget basic life and the suffering they go through.

Hopefully they didn't suffer for long or were quick enough to outrun it.

One thing for sure, it has put it back into my mind to get all my important papers, etc in one spot. I used to have them all together but three or four moves can make a mess of any organizational system. Gotta get my stuff together.

When my mum was taken to hospital hours away and I had to get there fast, I was really rattled. You know what I took with me? My art supplies... no clothes, no toothbrush, no phone charger. Just colours and paper. Weird.

As for seagulls, well... Razz

The thing is when we panic, we can only remember so much. We function on a level that is not compatible to what is happening.

driving through the fire zones was like a movie. you hope the cars in front do not stop due to catching fire, which would mean your car would be next! Very visceral.

Visceral is a great word for it...

One of the things I found amazing is how the fire jumped the river, the heat from it ignited the other side. If you see pictures, you know it's not a skinny minny little river!

Much cooler temperatures and some rain have helped it become almost manageable they say. Reports today have said that Ft Mc is about 85% intact so very positive news today.

We had some rain here as well this morning and thank goodness for it, there's been fires in a couple of ravines. Three homes burned.

Even one drop of rain is a lot better, I hate to hear mother nature suffering.
