Re: Do you believe the Holy Bible ?
No not really, it's only about who we are if you believe it to be. Yes it may be about who we are to a Christian, but does it define who we are to other cultures or those of no religion?

Re: Do you believe the Holy Bible ?
The stories were told for generations before they were written. So yes not lies maybe on purpose, but stories get changed the more they are told. If somebody tells you something, and you retell it to somebody else, well without realising you change a bit of that story. Then that person retells it, and again it changes. By the time 10 people have told that story it has changed quite a lot, give that story generations and generations, and there will not be much of the original story left.

Re: Do you believe the Holy Bible ?
Then there are the stories not part of the Biblke the council of Nicea placed and removed. It is why certain parts seem to contradict others
Book of Lillith, Judas, Gnostics all left out.
Lillith thought for herself and left Adam, where then he got Eve, a more supplicating wife than women's libber Lillith
Judas, perhaps Jesus' best friend and willing to take a PR hit to help his best bud by betraying at Jesus' command
Gnostics, because finding the divine within, not without was not how the Religious leaders saw things. God had to be something outside and beyond so it was always unobtainable as you lived. Gnostic ideas of the inner search to find God, not in some childish heaven, but in the soul was against so much
books accepted changed as the idea that Jesus spoke of reincarnation would blow it for the Church. Heaven is your reward for being a good lil sheeple, Hell is for you being against us as punishment, and there is no chance for making it right, the religionists wanted people afraid with the one life, get it right or suffer for eternity schtick. And yet, when asked what a man with many afflictions what his father could have done to have his son go through such horrors, Jesus replies "Ask not what sins his father did, but what he hath done in a past life" If that isn't JC speaking about reincarnation, then wow.
But the Churches lose control if folks know of reincarnation, no more carrot and stick to flog the masses with.

WRONG.......... Being 'Christian' or not has nothing to do with it.

Yes, it's a book of wisdom left by our ancestors.

It's not about who we are at all, it is not the one and only truth, why does it define who 'we' are?

The one and only truth is filled with contradictions just as are we.

Oh please, do not dismiss that much of who we are as a culture is shaped by religion, the Bible is the guidebook of the Churches, and hence the thing to recall is that if you say you are Christian, and o not go to church, then you are a bit closer to the concept, but western culture via the bible and first the Catholic, then protestant factions shaped Euro-culture
American culture is heavily influenced by protestant factions, all so many are shaped by their pastors, ministers, etc. So as their playbook if you will the churches of all denominations have had a hand in shaping the Americans of the Western World, the Catholic Church used it in South America.
The Bible has also through bible thumping crusaders shaped or better yet, impacted the lives of Native Americans and other religions from the Crusades to the present attempts of Jews for Jesus to convert folks to their PoV. Human stick and cling to a book of ancient and outdated information, I see it more as a historical tool as it gives insight as to how folks lived during those days. And religion worked better at avoiding issues like how water intense pig farming is over goat herding, so make eating pig flesh unlikely by making it evil. so much easier to dumb it down and make the sheeple into sheeple. Now I personally find much of today's right wingers seeking to hold back and stifle Humanity with their support for the Uber Rich. I do like that some people do actually practice the JC ideals that the Rich are not to be raised up and worshipped like kings, whih is good. BUT so many people of the world say they follow the Bible, but mostly on Sundays, at their churches, and do not practice as much of the good ideals as they claim.
