Re: Biblical Archaeology ..
We could all go back to living in caves where life, was hard, brutal and short or we can use science to improve our lives.
The Original Affluent Society
-by Marshall Sahlins
Hunter-gatherers
Hunter-gatherers consume less energy per capita per year than any other group of human beings. Yet when you come to examine it the original affluent society was none other than the hunter's - in which all the people's material wants were easily satisfied. To accept that hunters are affluent is therefore to recognise that the present human condition of man slaving to bridge the gap between his unlimited wants and his insufficient means is a tragedy of modern times.
Sources of the Misconception
"Mere subsistence economy", "limited leisure save in exceptional circumstances", incessant quest for food", "meagre and relatively unreliable" natural resources, "absence of an economic surplus", "maximum energy from a maximum number of people" so runs the fair average anthropological opinion of hunting and gathering... MORE

Re: Biblical Archaeology ..
It's called Politics Mr. W. Perhaps you have heard of it?
Not all science is bad, I have given many examples of how we have benefited from it. Apparently you expect scientists to work for nothing and live on nothing whilst they work.
The pair Marie Curie and Louis Becerel both died from the effects of radiation poisoning because they didn't know the dangers that they faced. Louis died of Liver cancer and Marie died of leukaemia, both caused by the radiation on the material they worked with. According to you they knew about it.
Tim.

Re: Biblical Archaeology ..
Perhaps there is something to the idea that 'Science' can be likened to something that children shouldn't be playing with until they're ready.
Are we responsible enough as a species? Can we self-regulate enough? I love all the benefits we derive from science used towards something positive, my children and I are alive because of it. But there's an equal number of children and parents who are dead because of it too.
Perhaps the discussion could be swung towards the moral responsibilities/ambiguities/conflicts of research & development.

There is nothing stopping you from going back to cave living if you want to. Most people would rather not do that. Therein lays the problem.
If you don't like pesticides then don't use them. If you don't like electricity then go without. If you don't like cars then walk, it's easy mate.
In many ways I agree with you Mr.W. but I use technology all the time. I like a simple life but I use a tractor to do the farm work. That takes diesel and oil.
I grow organic crops and use as many natural pests control as I can. But I still live in a modern world.

Re: Biblical Archaeology ..
I think we need to start by explaining what we believe to be a prayer, as I am sure we all have our own personal way.
If by prayer you mean making a petition to a God, Gods, Deity or other object of worship, then no, I don't pray like that, as I don't believe in a God or Gods.
I do, however, believe in the power of the universe and in that special link that connects us all.......to everybody and everything else.
I don't have a set of prayers and I don't follow made up ones........sometimes I have monologues with the universe and I share my innermost thoughts........sometimes I just close my eyes and say thank you........sometimes I listen to the wind.
That is praying to me.

Re: Biblical Archaeology ..
I ask my spirit guides and guardian Angel for help, protection and guidance, so no I don't pray.

Re: Biblical Archaeology ..
I don't pray, I have a close relationship to my guides and angel, they feel more like my best friends than of a higher position than I.

Re: Biblical Archaeology ..
Whitty: yes, that is praying too......but for some praying is actually sending a petition to a deity, and that I don't do.
But I believe that every spiritual connection with somebody/something is praying.
Rinoa: don't you give up so easily to him!!! Fight for your right to disagree!!! hahahaha
