Plastic Bottles
Coca-Cola’s annual report in 2020 showed that they sold 112 billion throwaway plastic bottles. Around 56 per cent made it to a recycling plant, meaning 49 billion bottles were not recycled.

Re: Plastic Bottles
Wow. That is a mind boggling number!! About 7 bottles for every person currently alive on Earth!
Makes you wonder how long these things will be sustainable for! :-/

Re: Plastic Bottles
It's awful
Scandalous here, nothing we've put into recycling here makes it into any sort of recycled thing. Municipalities shipped their recycling overseas - to China or the Phillippines or some other place. I don't trust any 'recycling' scheme anymore. We have to sort our waste or we get fined but what's the difference if it's just going to get shipped somewhere?
Ugh.

Re: Plastic Bottles
We get told the good news stories of how our recycling goes into making outdoor furniture, building products and so forth. I just hope it's true!
Our intelligence is very low when we buy plastic bottles that contain a drink that is drunk in a few minutes. That's mighty stupid.

Re: Plastic Bottles
They have those stories here as well, but the generic type without any particular name or place. Like (for example), ohhh we can make shirts out of plastic bottles. But do you ever see them in a store? Who's doing the making? Are they being made in China and shipped back over the oceans to our stores? We have absolutely no idea.

Re: Plastic Bottles
I remember growing up and taking the empty plastic bottles back to the shop to buy new ones.... did anybody else do that?

Re: Plastic Bottles
Yes we had that same system when I was a kid. Here they have recently started a cash back system for returned bottles and cans.
That's my feeling exactly Kaere... why don't we see these products promoted?

Re: Plastic Bottles
Right? So frustrating.
We still use that system in Alberta, returning bottles, etc and getting your deposit back. But after that... what does the bottle depot do with them all? They don't go back to Coke or Dairyland that's for sure.
Of all the industries here, you'd think I'd know someone, ANYONE, who works for a company that makes things from recycled products. We're all "Made in Canada!", there would be pride shown if it was legit happening.
Maybe there's good intentions with having garbage shipped overseas, but it's not ending up with anything good that I can tell. Just other countries annoyed with us at having to clean up our mess, our plastic bags, our plastic bottles. And you can tell it's ours cause there's logos on everything lol

Re: Plastic Bottles
I think all our plastic recycling material has stopped going overseas now as few countries want it anymore. It always had to be super clean, and without the bottle caps, and that didn't always work out so well.
We now flood poor countries with our waste clothing. That hasn't worked too well either.

Re: Plastic Bottles
Here the labels on our plastic bottles frequently include a mention that the bottle is recycled(Or partly recycled), and the labels also often have notices on them encouraging people to recycle the bottle again - “Give it another life” is what Volvic labels have said before now, if I remember right. Reincarnation for bottles FTW!
Bottles here frequently have “Please recycle me” on their caps too.
Whether it happens or not is another matter, obvs!

Wow… That is very frustrating and annoying. Looks like the Government are being extremely disingenuous for no good reason.

Pretty damn shocking the lengths they will go to, when they could be doing great things!

If this is anything to go by, I think I’m starting to get a better understanding of why people aren’t liking Trudeau. :-/

That's disgusting! I bet the local government won't think twice about penalizing people for not recycling etc.
It's like they are talking about the US, not Canada.
