Eating fruits and diabetes type 2.
Eating fruits reduces the risk of developing diabetes type 2.
Almost 8000 patients were followed in Australia for 12 years to study whether eating fruits or drinking fruits juices are beneficial to prevent a diagnosis of diabetes type 2.
Those who ate 2 serves of fresh fruits a day had a 36% less chance of developing diabetes II. This mirrors other studies that found that eating lots of fresh blueberries, grapes, apples, bananas, and grapefruit, reduces the risk of developing diabetes.
Unfortunately eating fruit juice had not the same positive effect, perhaps due to the lower fibre/higher sugar concentration of juices.
Eating fresh fruits may be so healthy, despite their fructose contents, because they are high on phytochemicals, which increase insulin sensitivity. They also contain lots of fibre, which we know helps regulate the release of sugars in the blood.
If you want to read the study: https://academic.oup.com/jcem/article/106/10/e4097/6290732?login=false
So far good news: coffee (unsweetened) is good, black chocolate is good and now fruits.... great day for people like me! LOL

Lion, read the post again, unfortunately fruit juice did not have a positive effect like fresh fruits (in the study).
K and Rogue, I'm glad we are on the same page!
Now I'm trying to find a study that shows chips/fries are super healthy! LOL

Store bought juices are something I really try to avoid nowadays.

Agree. Time and time again different studies have shown fruit juices are not good as they have too much sugar and very little fibre. Always much healthier to munch on fresh fruit.

Thank you, sir! I do agree potatoes are such a great food, full of potassium and other nutrients... but I still don't think fried food is healthy. They are a treat, but not something we should include in our daily diet.

Yes it's all in the frying! I like the 'chips' that I just do in the oven.

As I have hypertension (as do my parents and grandparents) I am a great believer in eating lots of potassium. Luckily most fresh fruits and veg have lots of potassium. A great list here:
