Phobias... do you have any??

Do you have any phobias? Or did you used to have some and you have got over them?

I mean real phobias, something that makes you really scared or have panic attacks, really freak out etc, not just "I don't like spiders".

Phobias are things a lot of people will make fun of, but people suffering from a phobia do have to alter their life because of them, it becomes so extreme in a lot of cases. that person will know they suffer from a phobia, they know it will seems silly, they know they want to stop feeling like that, but in their head it is a different story.

So what makes phobias? A bad experience as a child or young person? Some people think that if there isn't a reason in this life for it, then it is something that happened in a past life.

I have a few phobias, most can be put down to something that has happened in this life, apart from two which I believe relate to past lives. Yes I wish I could overcome them, most do not really bother me (mainly because I would not put myself in the situation to do so!), but two in particular cause me problems!

No, I don't have any phobias........I am scared of heights but I have no problems climbing to high places, so it's not a phobia.

I have some debilitating phobias, I have learned to accept them and mostly am at peace with them.

So do I VM, it can make things difficult at times to say the least! I say to myself 'oh stop being so stupid and get over it' but it doesn't help, they are on a subconscious level. One in particular doesn't make me have anxiety, it affects me on a level that I didn't even realise for a long time, it's so deep in my subconscious. My body reacts to it but not my head.

Guess what stirk, many perfectly 'normal' people are loaded with phobias and either won't or can't recognize them and if they did they would never deal with them.

Yep that is true VM, I always used to think everybody had them, and I suppose in one form or another they probably do, just some people get more affected by them than others.

No, not everybody have phobias.......just like not everybody have diabetes........not everybody is tall.........not everybody has blonde hair.

Only around 7% of populations in the West have phobias. But there's nothing embarrassing about it.....in fact 1 in 4 of us will develop a mental illness at any point in our lives, we just have to meet the ideal conditions.

I, so far have no phobias, nothing that debilitates me or prevents me from living my life to the full........but I have no guarantees that I will never develop one.

There are loads of things that I'm scared of... I have to face them or I'd never get anything done. Doesn't mean I don't fall apart afterwards.

I think the point here is the distinction between fear and phobia. Phobia is a medical condition that requires treatment, one can be afraid of spiders, but a phobic person would have a full panic attack seeing one...

Exactly........ I am scared of heights, but I don't have a phobia.

If you have ever seen a person with a panic attack, then you'll know that is a phobia, that requires treatment.

But nobody is safe.........it could happen to anybody anytime.
