Fukushima now! ☢
Japan Nuclear Prof.: It’s feared pool of Fukushima nuclear fuel to “collapse in” at any time; “Any scale of accident is possible” — Expert warns ice wall increases risk that reactor units will move or shift; Buildings ‘very precarious’ even... without frozen barrier being constructed
Radio Forum #72, May 24, 2014 — Translated by DISSENSUS JAPAN, June 10, 2014:
Jiro Ishimaru, host: About the current progress of decommissioning…
Hiroaki Koide, professor at Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute: [...] In November 2013, they started with Reactor #4 because it was the most accessible pool, and the most dangerous. The floor that housed the Used Fuel Pool in Reactor #4 was hugely damaged and it has been feared that the pool might collapse in any time. This is a very dangerous job. Any scale of accident is possible. But they have to do it. [...]
Translation of complete interview available here
WBUR — Here and Now, June 9, 2014:
Ken Buesseler, senior scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution: Maybe there’s some side effects [to the ice wall] that might also creep into this game, that they really haven’t considered here… if you stop the flow of water into certain soil, you can get things like settling — Buildings can move, so these are very precarious situation anyways, so we don’t want to have shifting.

Especially the waste, but there are those in the Nuke industry that will tout their safety record of the past 50yrs

Minor tsunami after 6.8-magnitude earthquake in Japan, near Fukushima
1 HOUR AGO JULY 12, 2014 8:58AM
A STRONG earthquake hit Japan’s northern coast near the nuclear power plant crippled in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
The earthquake early today triggered a small tsunami and injured at least one person.
Japan’s Meteorological Agency said the 6.8-magnitude quake struck 10k below the sea surface off the coast of Fukushima.
The 4.22am quake shook buildings in Tokyo, about 250km northwest of the epicentre.
A 20cm tsunami reached the coast of Ishinomaki Ayukawa and Ofunato, about 50 minutes after the quake.
Smaller waves were observed at several other locations along the coast. Changes to the shoreline were not visible on television footages of NHK public broadcaster.

Fukushima in cyclone's path
Saturday Jul 12, 2014
Tropical storm Neoguri churned toward the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant on Japan's east coast last night after leaving several people dead and causing havoc in other parts of the country.
The storm was downgraded from a typhoon after sweeping past Tokyo earlier yesterday, where it failed to disrupt the morning rush-hour, but was still packing winds of up to 83km/h and bringing heavy rain.
Workers at Fukushima were already locked in a daily struggle to contain huge amounts of contaminated water and were scrambling to protect the plant from the bands of rainfall being brought by Neoguri.
The operators of the plant, which was knocked out by a quake-triggered tsunami in 2011, have been trying to prevent groundwater tainted by the coolant used to maintain low temperatures at the destroyed reactors from leaking into the sea.
Japan's weather agency issued strong wind and rain warnings for the Fukushima regionhttp://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11292248

Fukushima the gift that keeps on giving!
Chernobl, Long Island, NewBridge, Fukushima, the list goes on. The nuke stations are a hang-over from the cold war days. Their primary purpose was to produce plutonium for weapons. Electricity is just a by-product. They are not as efficient as they are made out to be either. They produce about 20% more power out than they take in.
Here's an idea; if they want to build new ones then build them in the cities, especially where the rich and infamous live. Hey they are so safe!
Tim.

Yeah......build them where the politicians live!! lol
Germany has produced 40% of its energy with solar and wind power last year, why can't all governments do that? Why can't governments in 1st world countries grant solar panels to all houses and buildings.......isn't that the best way to help the environment with real green energy???

Because the fossil fuel industry and the Nuclear industry wish to maintain their expensive and toxic stranglehold on those unwilling to fight them, America is a prime example of corporate domination.

Absolutely!!
This is why I dream of owning a house with solar panels someday........ just to get my self more.... self reliant?

and you have been on a rant trying to sway all that scientific research is all good...when most is dedicated to controlling and manipulating the masses for profit

Yes, Nuclear was listed as "green" energy. Nice if it was plant green, not radioactive glowing green
