Christian Dogma Should be Questioned... Empty Christian Dogma Should be Questioned...

Post by Rockhopper Fri Dec 19, 2014 10:51 pm

It's that time of the year when we should be questioning Christianity and it's terrible legacy on much of the world.

As money flies towards the coffers of the church and into corporate accounts, over-sugary, kitschy Christmas carols and gospels are soaring out from the audio systems of department stores and malls all over the Empire and in almost all of its colonies (Saudi Arabia being an exception).

‘White Christmas’ is re-enacted and faked in the steaming-hot tropical ‘client states’, into where Christianity with all its nomenclature was forcefully injected decades and centuries ago.

Christmas trees, colorful balls and stars camouflage the sharp teeth, swords, torture instruments and propaganda tools. This faith was built on all conquered continents, on fear, never on love! Righteousness, aggressiveness and intimidation have been some of the trademarks of Christianity, for centuries. The faith which murdered hundreds of millions of people worldwide, reducing hundreds of great civilizations to ashes, is, until now, unapologetic and self-assured.

It is no wonder, as the greatest pillars of the modern-day oppression support it: the Empire itself as well as its unchallengeable fundamentalist capitalist doctrines.

We don't celebrate Xmas here in our household. At least not the western one. Jaks and I celebrate the Orthodox Xmas on the 6th Jan. A day when families get together that's all.  None of that crazy time buying things that people don't want and don't need just because it gives one a dose of the "Warm Fuzzies"!

Jaks sister Alina is coming out here to spend it with us.

Nothing wrong with a dose of the warm fuzzies, Rockhopper... enough warm fuzzies can be very healing.

True enough Ka. But one has to question the reason for them.

If you're spending money you can't afford on things that others don't need then it becomes self-defeating!

Why worry about the motivations of others?

I disagree... there's still warm fuzzies to be had and I appreciate them. Not self-defeating but perhaps not the best use of fiscal resources Smile

Xmas is xmas, no matter when you celebrate it..... to me xmas is a great time of the year, just because it means I'm home with the people I loved the most. And if xmas was moved to the 21st which is the original celebration, it wouldn't change one thing.
In my house xmas is an excuse to be together, watch the same old movies and eat like pigs. And we never spend money we don't have, I don't even have a credit card! lol

My point exactly Ags. That is what it represents to us here too. We celebrate it on the 6th Jan because that is the Orthodox tradition but it makes no difference what day it's on. It's a day of feasting and enjoying the company of family and others.

Well, let's not stop there. Today, there are many more violent versions of the Children of Darkness than those who turn the other cheek though constantly assaulted by a Canaanite regime.

There are many celebrations of light that are celebrated at the darkest time of the year. It doesn't matter what you call it or how you celebrate it. The festivals started because it gave hope and happiness at the darkest and hardest part of the year. All the festivals are about spreading love, joy and hope. That is what is important, spending time with ones you love and spreading a bit of joy and happiness to others. People around the world celebrate in their own way. The southern hemisphere should be celebrating these festivities in June really, as it would make a lot more sense them celebrating in winter Wink

We kind of do Stirkles. We have a Hol' in June (Queen's Birthday).

My main criticism of Xmas is the commercialisation of it. Where peeps feel the must out-do their neighbours and when it get like that the whole spirit of it gets lost.

The best gift of all is to enjoy the company of family and friends.

Just simply got gifts to exchange amongst the household here, and coz they have a 9yr old who looks forwards to it as he has yet to understand what else is behind it all.

I will call them Yule gifts, as I am more prone to celebrate things my own way.

To be fair, it's one of the few times of year that Christians and Atheists get together to celebrate Paganism Wink
