So this is America? - Page 3 Ferguson-police-chief-thomas-jackson

The police chief of Ferguson, Missouri had a stunned response after he learned his officers arrested a pair of reporters who were covering the ongoing protests that began in the city after an unarmed African-American teenager was shot by police there on Saturday. According to the Los Angeles Times, Chief Thomas Jackson was shocked when he found out the Washington Post’s Wesley Lowery and the Huffington Post’s Ryan Reilly were arrested Wednesday evening.

“Oh God,” Jackson said after learning of the arrests.

The Huffington Post’s Ryan J Reilly was also handcuffed as he was charging his phone in a local McDonalds. According to Reilly, cops arrested him because he photographed them and didn’t pack his bag quickly enough. The Huffington Post said the arrest was an example of “militant aggression.”

I also read in a story on CTV that the Senator of the State of Mo was gassed while peacefully observing. Her statements towards the police chief about the incident are on record. I'll find the story in a little bit.

So much has changed, before 9/11 there were still some police issues, but a police officer walked the beat in a city, he interacted with the community, wore a distinct blue uniform, his badge, answered kids' questions. Only intervened in a real problem.

Now it is battle armor an auto-rifle, zip strips, tear gas and taser alongside the pistol over combat fatigues and combat boots, and they only come out to attack protests. The mindset tha is used along with that gear is one of violent confrontationalism.

9/11 the day the democratic, American Republic became the Corporatist Police State

Link to the senator to the cops asking if she would be gassed again

BTW part of my army training was tear gas, nasty and potent stuff

The way I see this issue... so far I've heard two different versions of how it got started. One says the kid was the aggressor, one says the police was the aggressor. However it started, neither side is handling it well. A right to protest does not mean the right to destroy and having a mandate to serve and protect does not include waging war against those citizens you are meant to be working for.

Seems to me that violence begets violence. Someone has to be grown up enough here to stop.

Among the protesters critical of the police response has been state Sen. Maria Chapelle-Nadal, a Democrat from nearby University City

"I just want to know if I'm going to be gassed again, like I was on Monday night?" she asked Jackson at a press conference. "And I was peaceful. And I'm your state senator."

"I hope not," he replied.

The unarmed kid was shot 10 times?

Why not just taser him instead?

When we had this problem in the UK it all got out of hand very very quickly. Anarchy and the mob mentality soon set in, and people join in with riots when they have no idea why the riot started in the first place. It was a good excuse for people to go looting, stealing and generally being totally out of order. People that lived and had businesses in the areas affected were scared for their lives. The police need to tackle it in such an aggressive manner, and yes mistakes are made on their part (in the UK a man was killed as he was just peacefully walking home and got pushed to the ground by the police). But, you can say the police are the bad guys here. If they stood back and did nothing then the whole country would be on it's knees. It was scary to see how quickly it spread here and how out of control it did get. There needs to be order or all hell breaks loose.

Very much so.......

7:55 AM PT: This is coming from Governor Nixon.  Official spokespeople are saying Gov Nixon is presently enroute to St. Louis to officially declare that the Ferguson Police are relieved of the duty to respond to the incidents in Ferguson.  It was NOT stated whether they would be replaced by State Police, National Guard or a federal (FBI) force.  We will have to wait for the Governor's announcement.
