Plane crashes in the French Alps
The plane crashed in the Alpes between France and Italy... near the city of Genoa actually which has made me very nervous now.
I don't care what people say but lately there are too many planes disappearances and planes crashes!Germanwings airliner crashes in French Alps.
An Airbus A320 airliner has crashed in the French Alps between Barcelonnette and Digne, French aviation officials and police have said. The jet belongs to the German airline Germanwings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa.
The plane had reportedly been en route from Barcelona to Dusseldorf and was carrying 142 passengers and six crew. French President Francois Hollande said: "The conditions of the accident, which have not yet been clarified, lead us to think there are no survivors."
Mr Hollande said the crash was a tragedy and called for solidarity with the victims, adding that the area of the crash was very difficult to access. The plane had issued a distress call at 10:47 (09:47 GMT), according to sources quoted by AFP news agency.
French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said he had sent Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve to the scene and a ministerial crisis cell to co-ordinate the incident had been set up. Both Airbus and Germanwings have said they are aware of the reports but cannot yet confirm them.

I know how you feel, I flew to the US only a few months after the 9/11 attacks, and took a lot of internal flights while I was there. It is a worry when you think of things like that happening, but to be honest you have more chance of being run over crossing the street.

Saw that on the news this morn. Cumulo-granite - clouds with rocks in them!
Very sad. I am informed that there are about 500 planes flying at any given time so the chances of a crash are very small.

Also mountain regions can have odd wind gust patterns which toss the planes like toys

Re: Plane crashes in the French Alps
They have apparently got one of the Flight recorders so when they get the other they will hopefully know what happened.
The plane went into a dive before crashing.

Re: Plane crashes in the French Alps
I know the chances of crashes are very small but everytime there is a crash 150 + people die all at once. That what makes them scary.Ā
They are now saying the plane was grounded over faults just 24 hours before taking off again... if I was the mother of one of those 15 year old I would go after those engineers that allowed the plane to fly and I wouldn't stop until they rot in jail.

Re: Plane crashes in the French Alps
Ags, the engineers that gave it a clear after they let their bosses berate them to do it so they could make money, as well as those greedy bosses who should have known better and kept that plane grounded for repairs should also be gone after. IF it was the fault in the plane.
If like our "Nevada Triangle" along with climactic shifts, the sudden air sheer could have grabbed the plane, risen it, then slapped it into the ground as happens in Nevada.
Once the flight recorders know how the plane crashed, then actions may be taken.

I'd be willing to bet that the bosses won't be prosecuted Len. It will be their underlings who cop the flak.
Yeah, I have flown over those Alps before and it was a very bumpy ride!

I agree with Tim,Len, the bosses will never pay for anything. But, just like in hospitals, employees need to learn to stand up for their clients. If the planeĀ was in no condition to fly, the engineers should have stopped it. Just like I had stood up to other nurses or doctors when I saw something I didn't like at work.

Yep, people are afraid of being whistleblowers and yet they are vital to society. There's a big thing with whistleblowing in uk hospitals at the moment, we are having lots of trainings to be able to stand up to bad practice. But, this is the UK and I am not afraid of doing so cause I know there are organizations that can back you up and you can also do it anonymously. But we need to stand up for others... you never know when you'll need somebody to stand up for you!

Apparently one of the pilots got locked out of the cockpit?

Re: Plane crashes in the French Alps
Still a tragedy. Our Post 9/11, fear monger world which includes so many state acts of criminally irresponsible terrorist making via attacks all over does no help, but that the doors are too secure so as to leave a pilot locked out when he is needed shows that this direction was overboard and perhaps a reasonable door which is easier for the crew to use should have been looked into over making essentially a vault door for a bloody plane!

The co-pilot deliberately locked the captain out of the cockpit to crash.

Re: Plane crashes in the French Alps
It seems like it, it's all over the news..... and one starts wondering why this young man did what he did. Experts have no doubt it was on purpose as he was breathing normally and was alive on impact... he simply ignored the captain and crashed the plane.
I am due to fly on Sunday morning and I am feeling very nervous right now.... I usually love flying but I am now pondering whether I should actually do it, as I am traveling without my kids.

Re: Plane crashes in the French Alps
It is shocking the news that has come out this lunchtime. Apparently it was a controlled descent and like Ags said he was breathing normally and was said to be alive on impact. It is scary how somebody could do this, I'm sure we will have more details soon.
