Britain's David Cameron Rallies Party Before Election
Posted: 03/28/2015 10:25 pm
DAVID CAMERON

LONDON (AP) — Prime Minister David Cameron said Saturday that Britain's election campaign is on a knife edge, as he rallied the Conservative party with a personal attack on his main rival.

Cameron told a party rally that "this isn't any election. This is a high-stakes, high-risk election."

"This is a knife-edge election and can only be cut two ways: Conservative or Labour," Cameron said. "Britain on the rise or turning the clock back."

The campaign officially kicks off Monday, when Parliament is dissolved before the May 7 vote. Polls suggest neither the Conservatives nor Labour will win a majority of seats.

In a sign the close-fought battle will be bruising, Cameron launched a personal attack on Labour leader Ed Miliband.

"I know what this role needs — and frankly, I don't think Ed Miliband has it," Cameron said.

"Some people might say, 'Don't make this personal,' but when it comes to who's prime minister, the personal is national."

Cameron slammed Miliband's left-of-center party as a "bunch of hypocritical, holier-than-thou, hopeless, sneering socialists."

Miliband launched his election campaign Friday from the top of London's Orbit tower, promising to preserve the cash-strapped National Health Service.

Cameron also made the NHS a key issue, vowing that his government would ensure people had access to doctors and hospital services seven days a week.

"With a future Conservative government, we would have a truly seven-day NHS," Cameron said — though he didn't outline how he would pay for it.

Cameron's coalition government has cut billions in spending in a bid to curb the country's deficit, and he says austerity measures will continue in a second term.

Yep I reckon so! Will be an interesting watch from over here.

Closer to home I see Winston Peters made a big comeback over John Key this weekend.

Oh Yea! He'll toss some chili in the parliamentary stew!

The Conservatives really bombed out and panicked. They even called our Johnny back from the Japan big trade talks to add a rock-star to their electioneering - didn't work but.

The North has been a steady National seat for years and they lost it!!

The fortunes of the UKIP will be interesting to watch. With the first past the post system they could score a big percentage of votes and next to no seats.

People are very split who to vote for this time, the last election was a big farce, people had voted for the lib dems as their policies were very inviting and people thought they would have made the change that the country needed. But of course they didn't get quite enough votes and seats, so the dreaded and much hated coalition happened. People will not vote lib dem again. Labour has to get it, I think it's the only way out country can move forward. The tories are bad news for us, and so are UKIP!

Voting green wouldn't give them enough of a majority to make a difference, there are an awful lot of people that wouldn't vote for them

Yep Stirkles the Lib Dems just caved in to the Cameron Clan. It wasn't really a coalition, more an extension of the Tories.

The Greens have their core supporters, a few who might vote for them and a group that would not under any circumstances. They tend to polarise people.

Not sure about Milliband, he seems to me to be another rightwing socialist like Tony 'The Prince of Darkness' Blair. But I'm on the other side of the world.

Gawd help you if the UKIP gets a strangle hold!!

I agree with Stirky, Lib Dem are out this time as last time they only delivered a bunch of empty promises.

Cameron is bad news and if he wins again the NHS will be privatised and if this happen the working class will struggle to pay for doctors and hospitals, just like in the US.

Ukip are morons, I agree there are bad foreigners here but they have to tell people the truth, that the majority of immigrants come here to work and not to abuse the system (backed by gov. statistics). They should also tell people that immigrants come here to do certain jobs that nobody wants to do... believe you me, if you get rid of all foreign nurses and doctors, hospitals will have to shut down.

I agree with Stirky, the only way is to vote for Labour... and let that muppet looking Ed win.

I certainly hope that Cameron gets the heave, he's another poor little rich kid and completely out of touch with reality.

A coalition doesn't work in an FPP electorial system. The dominant party takes over and the lesser ones get sidelined. Nick Clegg was about the weakest politician I have seen in Brit. Politics.

On the news here they said the SNP stood up very well in the Leaders Debate. Wish we would have debates here where the minor parties were part of it.

Yes if Cameron gets in again it will be very bad news, like Ags said the NHS as we know it will be gone. The Tories always have and always will look after the rich, whilst wiping their feet on the normal working people of this country. We don't need them in again!!

Yes I agree Ags, not all foreigners in this country are bad news at all. There are an awful lot of people that have come here to earn honest livings, work hard, pay their taxes etc, there are an awful lot of British born people that do not do that!!! Plus how many British people have gone to live in other countries?? It goes both ways!!! Thing that makes me laugh, is Farage is such a hypocrite, his wife is German.

Tim, I'm not sure about that cause they do hate Eastern Europeans. He is a hypocrite, like Stirks said, he has a foreign wife, if he wins, will she have to leave the UK?
