Re: Solutions for Global Warming
True, but does it have to be quicklime? If chipped limestone can cause the same reaction, it might bypass that issue.

Nope has to be quicklime CaO, limestone is CaCO3 and is not reactive.
The Equation is CaO + CO2 = CaCO3 Bummer eh!
If you put an acid with CaCO3 you will get CO2 released Bummer again!

Re: Solutions for Global Warming
Well the drawing board could be Calcium Acetate Ca(C2H3O2)2. That will absorb CO2 and turn to quicklime and vinegar. The CaO remains in solution with the Acetic Acid and is unchanged.

I don't hate you Mr. W. It's just your POV that's all.
No the pyramids are not that old at all. they are made of limestone and that would have disintegrated into dust over that time. The Sphinx is a big lump of limestone too.
As I suggested to VM, go and have a look at the place, it's quite an eye-opener. You can go and see just how the pyramids were built and how the stone was cut.

So crushed chalk or eggshells and white vinegar? At least it could neutralize the fluoride in the water

Well the eggshells would be a natural substance mate! Chalk is Calcium Carbonate so are eggshells. Dissolve them in vinegar and you will get Calcium Acetate which could used.
CO2 can be captured quite easily and with not much cost as well. It could be purified and then used to charge soda water!

Re: Solutions for Global Warming
heh, I only use it to negate the fluoride in tap water...have to have a bit of a deeper look at it. Cheers for that

The U.N. Climate Summit Film
Presented to world leaders at the United Nations Climate Summit in New York, this short inspirational film shows that climate change is solvable. We have the technology to harness nature sustainably for a clean, prosperous energy future, but only if we act now. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, it calls on the people of the world to insist leaders get on the path of a livable climate and future for humankind.

Sorry, powering the world by solar won't work.
1 Barrel of Crude Oil = 42 U.S. gallons = 5,800,000 Btu.
87,000 X 42 x 5,800,000 = 21,193,200,000,000 Btu (world usage).
That's just crude oil usage!
At 250 btu hr per ft2 one would need 946 ft2 of solar collector area.

Re: Solutions for Global Warming
Quite right VM Solar won't but as a part of alternative energy it would. Solar, Wind, wave, Geothermal and biofuels collectively could.
Firstly we need to use less oil and gas and find other ways to run our economies. Oil is finite and will run out one day anyway.

Solar works well in warm sunny climates.

Re: Solutions for Global Warming
There are now solar panels that also absorb energy from cloudy days. Now also non-toxic application solar cells means better for the environment solar!
Wind spiral turbines means more compact and colorful windmills for wind power and more durable too!
Wave power for coastal power supplies would be made to lay inside the natural rythm and scheme.
Suspended hydroelectric turbines, being damless, would allow natural river flows and fish to pass by without bothering them, and be set so boats could also pas them with no issues.
Geothermal would be great in places where there is activity, and also stays running for a long time based on geo activity, no need for coal or gas or oil or nukes.
Even the uranium supplies are thinning, like oil, over tapped and abused.

Re: Solutions for Global Warming
I get about 1.2Kw from my system in an overcast day and about 1.8Kw on a sunny one. The difference is made up by the windgens. We just realise that our system is finite and if we use more now there is less for later.
That was a distinct mindset we had to climb over but it's second nature to us now.

Yeah, that seems to be the key really, changing the mindset.Rock wrote:That was a distinct mindset we had to climb over but it's second nature to us now.

Re: Solutions for Global Warming
Hence if I had a real house, not this trailer, I would invest in solar as well as wind, multiple panels a transformer, and capacitor cells to hold and release the energy we need, multiple wind spirals as well for that wind power. they even come in different colors!
