I guess the end of the world was on people's minds a lot when the bible was written. Imminent death from famine, war, etc was quite at the forefront. Predicting it would have been a comfort (try to avoid it?) Perhaps it wasn't such a bad thing in their minds (or even in the minds of people nowadays). Afterall, people don't seem to ever like the state of the world even at it's most amazing.

Conspiracy theories have been with us from time immemorial. People have to have something to reject at the same time they are not willing to give up anything. If the world was perfect they would create an imperfect one or the reverse. To me the planets are our parents and relatives so we say and do the worst and best things to them, however they are all we have got. They are not willingly planing to destroy us because they are conscious and want to live just the same as we do. Even if it was true that Mercury was signaling the end of life on earth we would have to endure the departure. I guess conspiracy theories will continue, however the world or worlds will not end.
