Canada legalizes Marijuana

The Provinces will set the regs on when and where and who can and can't grow it. When and where it can be used etc. 

I would say that they would not allow it in commercial areas so that people won't be walking though a blue haze.

There's already shops and such in commercial areas, people smoke it openly in parks, while walking, etc.

I'm not sure how much will be regulated by the provinces and how much will be regulated federally. The federal gov't already regulates medical marijuana. I haven't read much on the recreational side.

Welp. This happened yesterday. And the line ups were unreal!

I drove past lineups that were blocks long, winding through parking lots. And already... not even 1 hour into the day... someone was stopped by the police for driving while under the influence.

It's a novelty Ka that's why there are long lines. That will settle down in the weeks and months ahead.

Just an outright ban simply doesn't work.

Nah, the lines will stop when the supply runs too low to provide. Which is what is predicted to happen in the next few weeks.

There was no outright ban anymore, that's the thing. Medical marihuana has been around for a long time now and there were laxer laws around recreational use. You could legally have 30g for personal use and you were able to grow your own.  The only difference now is it's 'legal' so the gov't can make stores, just like liquor stores, or sell it in pharmacies, and tax it and make a shedload of money. Just as bad as lotteries and other gambling being run by the gov't imo.  Just trying to force out the black market dealers and make themselves top dog *smh*

Plus, Trudeau did it for the votes and the optics, it's so obvious that was his motivation. Pushed it through despite the opposition.  Just as bad as the whole "Because it's 2015" quip... eugh.

I imagine there would be regulations now on the quality of the product? There has been evidence here of all sorts of crap sprayed onto cannabis to make it stronger.

The gov't suppliers are the same ones who supply the medical marihuana, so they've had quality control for a long time. Same weed, different label *shrugs*. We don't hear much about marihuana being adulterated by "black market" sellers, there seems to be a sense of pride about how it's naturally great stuff (particularly BC bud). The bigger story here in that regard is opioid abuse and counterfeiting, fentanyl and such.
