Well, call me cynical but I still don't believe it. He's in a secret hospital... he has a reputation, he is known for disappearing when things get tough. We'll just have to wait and see.

A new graph from yesterday evening, showing how Italy and Spain are not just flattening the curve but shrinking it. The UK still on its way up and the US is now the worst country regarding CV deaths. BTW, all this info is free now on the Financial Times: https://www.ft.com/coronavirus-latest

The UK and US are both showing what could be the beginning of a flattening.
Great to see both Italy and Spain starting to reduce the number of fatalities, France too.
One country which seems to be managing well so far is India; again, a hotter country.

This is becoming more disturbing by the day at the moment. I’m really quite shocked at how BoJo seems to have deteriorated.

I really hope he gets better soon but this is why people have to be careful how they treat others: his 'take it on the chin' attitude a few weeks back is coming back to haunt him.

My thoughts really are with him, his partner and children. May he recover soon.

That’s what gives me optimism: with so many people working so hard on it, surely a vaccine will be ready sooner than first predicted.

I like how the graphs and links keep being posted, this is great info!

I was thinking today how we’ve only known colds and flu in the past, but now they’ve been joined by Coronavirus, and the symptoms seem to be similar to a combination of cold and flu symptoms, but repackaged with added extras.
I just found this chart which I think illustrates it well:



It’s like someone mixed up the recipes for cold and flu, emptied out half the pot and added a couple of new ingredients.
This is how I now think this virus is going to change the way we live - at least temporarily. Just like Spanish Flu 100 years ago, it’s moving the goalposts.

Lion, that's a very good chart! Thank you for sharing!  According to that the way I felt for the past two weeks is neither a flu nor CV! LOL

CV is here to stay, I think, and yes it's moving the goalposts and changing the way we'll live at the same time. I was reading about it today during my lunch break, and financially they forecast 4 possible futures: socialism, state capitalism, barbarism or big societies built on social aid. I hope is a mixture of all (except barbarism of course).

Glad you liked the chart, I only randomly came across it earlier that night when reading a Coronavirus article(Think it was in the Guardian but can’t remember 100%). I thought it was very practical.

I read that the UK had recorded the highest number of deaths so far yesterday, yeah - but read that it was over 900, we’ll see soon how today has compared. Thanks for the graph - the curves of case numbers in Europe are starting to look like bouncing ball trajectory curves now. Let’s hope they start dropping even more quickly and then don’t bounce back up!

I think it was around 800 dead in the UK today, slightly less than yesterday... hopefully we have reached the peak and it will start going down from now on.

I read that China and Japan are going to go on strict lockdown again because they relaxed the rules and the numbers are increasing again........ we are not going to be safe until a vaccine is made!!

Do you know the figures for new infection cases? This seems to me to be a better way of measuring how the virus is slowing, or growing, what the trend is toward flattening the curve of infection. The death rate is a measure several weeks on from infection.

The Aussie infection rate is dropping relatively quickly each day atm, but the death rate has been higher this week. One would expect the death rate will drop in coming weeks due to the less infections we're experiencing now.

I also have a graph for number of cases but, just like deaths, you can only see the countries with the highest numbers (hopefully Australia will never be visible in these graphs!)

Cheers Ags, that is a better curve for the UK. Makes much more sense to me showing where countries are heading.

I think what the graphs are showing now is how important lockdown is, and what a beneficial effect it’s having; as it is, the graph traces for most countries are teetering on a knife-edge... Without lockdown I think they’d be going into orbit now.

And for some countries to try lifting it only to experience an immediate increase in cases again... My God this thing is virulent! I agree Aggie, any return to relative normality depends on a vaccine becoming available.

People in the UK are being urged to stay home this weekend in spite of the good weather forecast. Think the Police might have a busy time ahead!

I weep for New York... I read that NY state has more cases than the entire world combined (please correct me if I'm wrong). And they are burying the dead in mass graves now...
