Re: Life on Other Planets?...
Quite likely Mr W. Life on Earth seems to be based on a set "template" to a great degree, which is also influenced by other factors (atmospheric pressure and gravity among others). Another lifeform might be based on quite different principals.

I remember that Hawkins said that Carbon is probably the block of life in other planets, because it has the richest chemistry. But he also said that we may end up finding life that have another chemistry base, like silicon.
We just don't know yet.

Yes! I had to go look for that article about Hawinks, as it was a couple of years ago:
Other prominent scientists have warned that we humans may be blinded by our familiarity with carbon and Earth-like conditions. In other words, what we’re looking for may not even lie in our version of a “sweet spot”. After all, even here on Earth, one species' “sweet spot” is another species' worst nightmare. In any case, it is not beyond the realm of feasibility that our first encounter with extraterrestrial life will not be a solely carbon-based fete.
Alternative biochemists speculate that there are several atoms and solvents that could potentially spawn life. Because carbon has worked for the conditions on Earth, we speculate that the same must be true throughout the Universe. In reality, there are many elements that could potentially do the trick. Even counter-intuitive elements such as arsenic may be capable of supporting life under the right conditions. Even on Earth some marine algae incorporate arsenic into complex organic molecules such as arsenosugars and arsenobetaines.
Several other small life forms use arsenic to generate energy and facilitate growth. Chlorine and sulfur are also possible elemental replacements for carbon. Sulfur is capable of forming long-chain molecules like carbon. Some terrestrial bacteria have already been discovered to survive on sulfur rather than oxygen, by reducing sulfur to hydrogen sulfide.
Nitrogen and phosphorus could also potentially form biochemical molecules. Phosphorus is similar to carbon in that it can form long chain molecules on its own, which would conceivably allow for formation of complex macromolecules. When combined with nitrogen, it can create quite a wide range of molecules, including rings.

If you read the whole article you'll see that even water may be redundant in other planets, and the life there may be able to use ammonia instead.
Oh the wonders of this universe!!!!!!!!

Of course, I am expecting humanity to make a right mess of things on other planets IF they get off this one, no lessons learned as yet, Especially with the sociopaths and psychos booking passage to the nearest solar system so they can have more demented progeny who will in the long run burn yet another world.

Agree...we are still very Much animals....we are shifting the power structures though...however slow It may be

Humans are not animals, but have historically shown a few gems of reason, compassion, generosity and care amongst a throng herd of monsters. The leader types, the ones with the desire to be dominant are the monsters who lead the rest. They would launch themselves upon the universe as they leave the rest, most likely more deserving souls to die here when the planet eco-system collapses in on itself.

I'm not sure that's always the case, Lenzabi. There are lots of dominant alpha personalities out there with a desire to do amazing things to help the world. Take Doctors Without Borders for example... do you really think a passive person leading passive people would have been able to create such a thing?
The world needs strong leaders... good, moral, and powerful leaders. Leaders often have a desire to change the world and the ability to manifest their vision... sounds a lot like some of us here. I'm a leader type and I'm not a monster.

I agree, the leaders we need have to be from the gems, and we must stop selecting the monsters, remove them from power either voting or thru scandals and shame them out of power. Doctors w/o borders are examples of the gems.

And there are lots of gems out there.......there are actually more nice people than bad people out there, the problem is that the bad ones get more attention and/or pubblicity than the good ones.
Look at the media: only bad/depressing/negative news sell.
