Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
Yeah! Ebola doesn't cause blisters though. It's a haemorrhagic disease. It's likely to be Varicella (Chicken pox or Shingles).

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
The story has changed slightly... now they say they isolated this person because of his travel itinerary which turned out to not have gone near any ebola areas in the first place.

Yes, and thankfully another 'all clear' given. Just a matter of time.

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
And one in the US (who was sent home from the doctors)
Ebola In America: The Confirmed Case In Dallas...
The day that many of us hoped would never arrive is here. Ebola has come to America. Air travel between the United States and the countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone should have been totally shut down except for absolutely essential personnel but it wasn't. And now our nation may end up paying a great price as a result. On Tuesday, the CDC announced that there is a confirmed case of Ebola in Dallas, Texas. We know that this individual is a male and that he traveled by air from Liberia to Texas on September 19th. At that time, he was not exhibiting any symptoms. It is being reported that he started developing symptoms on September 24th and that he sought out treatment two days later. Incredibly, he was turned away and sent home. Then on September 28th he went to a hospital again and this time he was admitted for treatment. That means that he could have potentially been spreading Ebola to others for at least four full days before finally getting treated at a hospital. Now he is in intensive care at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. The CDC says that "there is no doubt that we will stop it here" and is promising that "it will not spread widely in this country". The CDC better be right on both counts.
At this point, the CDC is admitting that it is not known if others have been infected by this individual. The CDC also says that it is tracking down everyone that he has been in contact with. But over four days in a major U.S. city, you can be "in contact" with a whole lot of people. And what about all of the people that those people were in contact with?...

The article above says he returned from Liberia September 19. Thats quite a few days back in the States before being diagnosed.

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
Ebola has an incubation period of around three weeks Roggie so it could well be it.
At least the US can contain it before it spreads too far. They would need to know everyone who was in contact with him and test them.

Which is possibly easier said than done, if he took public transport to and from the hospital the first time (second time was an ambulance delivery).

Tim, I find this report quite ridiculous. We live in a global village this epidemic was going to spread if it was not checked at the source in Africa. They have neglected to respond to a potential worldwide disaster mainly because it originated in Africa. Now they tell us it has arrived in the US what did they expect, it was only a matter of time. They are now facing a problem that is far greater now now nowynow now because people move around with greater ease and are more likely to spread the disease worldwide. Where are thinkers of the world? So many uninsured people in the US that that do not respond to simptoms of fever or Ebola resembling simptoms.. Where does the WHO stand on this issue?

80 people have been in close contact with him, including 5 students so they are now worried about others at the school.

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
I keep thinking about The Stand (novel by Stephen King), it's about a virus that wipes out all but 1% of the population (and the battle between good and evil)... anyway, it also started with a patient who traveled and ended up sick/dying in Texas.
Just a random association.

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
Blimey!
Also very similar to the film Outbreak, that was based on an ebola outbreak in 1976 (when the virus was first discovered) that also affected Texas back then. Perhaps Stephen King also based his novel on facts.

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
Or how about "Survivors"? It is amazing how stupid my fellow Americans are in never adopting single payer health care so that folks would not have to think twice about going to see the docs in case of an outbreak. Nah can't have "socialism" in 'Murika!
Yet they love to drive their gas guzzlers on highways and roads.
Some enjoy public libraries
others use bridges
National Parks
In fact they do not realize that all of these and social safety nets are socialism in the benevolent form. The dumbing down of America means many can't look past what they are told. So of course a outbreak is possible even with our facilities

Len, there is always a price to pay, the chickens might be late but they always come home to roost. It will now reveall itself why healthcare should be offerd to all people in every country as long as we live in a global village. Some people are so paranoid about socialism that they completely miss the bigger picture. There is too much of a gap between the rich and the poor. On another note,I think the Ebola virus is been tested as a biological weapon, otherwise why did they alow
it to get out of hand in Africa? Just a thought mmm

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
Good thought but I disagree Star. I don't think it was used as a bio-weapon, the pattern doesn't fit. It started by a person from Sierra Leone who has visited Ruwanda where it's endemic.
There is a book too called 'The Burning Zone' (not the TV series) that describes the original outbreak. And how they tracked it back to a cave full of bats on the banks of the Ebola River.
Yes, there is a place for socialised health but sadly that won't happen in the US in the near future. And many of the rightwing Govts. in other parts of the world are dismantling their own systems.

EBOLA FEAR PORN, simply make sure that you react positively to it, see it for what it is, know that you control your reaction/s, do not let it bring your consciousness-DNA-thoughts (therefore those around you also ) down, lsol
