Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
I don't know if it's already been mentioned but the head Ebola guy, the best of their best there, has died of it. So perhaps getting aid workers and other specialists some better care is preventative action... keeping those with the most experience alive in whatever way they can?

Oh that is sad Kaere, especially when his knowledge on the disease would have saved lives. But working with the disease cost him his

Staff tell of fears as jet from Africa is quarantined after the death of passenger who was 'sweating and vomiting' before she collapsed.
Airport staff tonight told of their fears of an Ebola outbreak after a passenger from Sierra Leone collapsed and died as she got off a plane at Gatwick.
Workers said they were terrified the virus could spread globally through the busy international hub from the West African country which is in the grip of the deadly epidemic.
Airport workers faced an anxious wait to see if the woman had Ebola. One said: “Everyone’s just petrified"

However, the article does highlight exactly how easily the disease could spread to the EU/US...even more so once you get into how the people smugglers operate.

Yes sadly it would be too easy for any virus to spread, the joys of air travel, even spreading it by other forms of transport. I mean how often does a whole cruise liner full of people go down with a sickness bug? These viruses thrive in conditions like that.

Ah yes, people smuggler business, mentioned and taken into account in the book "World War Z", Desperate humans also dragging infected family along in the hopes of a cure, instead making the diseases we have spread to other countries undetected until an outbreak hits and spreads. America has a large and growing poor and homeless community thanks to inequality, imagine Ebola landing amongst them?

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
A Spanish missionary priest infected with ebola has become the first person to be treated in Europe during the deadly outbreak which has hit West Africa.
Miguel Pajares, who contracted it while helping ebola patients at a hospital in the Liberian capital Monrovia, is in hospital in Madrid after being flown in from Liberia.

It'd be similar to the Black Death in Europe, I'd imagine. America (and most of the rest of the planet) are woefully unprepared for a major pandemic, although I daresay there are contingency plans in place to try and stem the spread...

There are some people in Cardiff that are being tested for ebola and been put in quarantine, although not much news about this. Nit sure if the results have come back yet or not.

Of course this does raise another question that has been avoided like the plague (pun intended).
With the human population at it's current levels, is a pandemic needed to drop the global population to sustainable levels?

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
Actually, many may not like the response I give. We are actually over due for a real, dyed in the wool, honest massive pandemic.
Folks freaked here when they brought the 2 american docs home in hazmat gurneys and the worker moving them in full on bio-hazmat gear. they are in the CDC in Atlanta on the Emory University campus, which is geared for dealing with such isolation of diseases.

I agree Len, once a population hits over-shoot, a pandemic is natures way of scaling the numbers back.

Re: Deadly Ebola Virus
Well....... my mind is going somewhere else: suddenly a new Ebola vaccine is being approved all over the world, even though it hasn't been tested properly...... the pharmaceutical companies always win, it seems.

One of the three horsemen. War and Famine are the other two.
