No, I think it’ll still offer protection against the mutant virus, just not quite as much. Since the vast majority of the virus’s genetic makeup will still be the same, it stands to reason that the original vaccine is still going to protect against it to a relatively high extent.

Hopefully we are not entering an ongoing 'chasing our tails' game in 2021.

What Lion said: the vaccines are still good and offer immunity. But if the immunity is not as high as they've seen with clinical trials (because of the new variants) they can easily tweak it to make it as good as predicted.

(Woohoo, it feels awesome in an almost surreal way to have a nurse who has so much scientific knowledge seconding my views! I feel not worthy! LOL)
I think that although the virus obviously had a big head start, we’ve been catching up rapidly with the vaccines as well as by using the other protective measures to slow it down, and now we’re very close to catching it up properly.
I’m hopeful that in future, we’ll look back on early 2021 as being the “Indian summer” of the worst part of this pandemic.

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
I never got round to responding to this bit at the time, but what I was meaning to say is that in the day or so before you made this post - when the announcement about the new lockdown was first made - I’d been thinking exactly the same thing. I had a lot more mental stamina to keep going through the original lockdown in March-June of last year than I think I have now. It feels like my mental batteries have been going flat for a while now and I’m running on fumes... I guess it doesn’t help that we’re in the middle of winter and the last lockdown was during spring and early summer, when the time of year was much more uplifting!Agartha wrote:What I didn't say is that I am tired, tired of it all, and I don't have the same energy to fight like we did back in April-June last year.
Still, it feels like it should be possible to get through this lockdown just as easily once we get into it; mental resilience is an amazing thing!
I think it’s spooky in a cool way, how we both seemed to think the same thing at the same time! LOL

Face down if you spot the corona virus, or 'car-owner' virus

Yeah, I guess it works best with an English accent, that line
There was one comment on that video saying something like “I’ve been lying face down for 3 days now, is it safe to get up yet?”... LOL!

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
Lockdown in Scotland has now been extended till at least the middle of February, according to a new announcement:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/uk-scotland-55718133
I’m glad about this, I hope lockdown stays in place till at least the majority of the population have been vaccinated.
Also, the islands of the Outer Hebrides have now apparently gone into full lockdown for the first time after a significant virus outbreak there - which is a bit crazy that they’re having to do that, bearing in mind how remote those islands are!

I also agree with the lockdown being extended, as it is working, we can see the numbers slowly going down.
How did they get an outbreak on such little island???

Yeah, good question - I was thinking the same thing! It’s not like they should have a problem with social distancing out there!
Hope they haven’t managed to create a super-mutated version of the virus on those islands which somehow manages to infect anybody with a 100-mile radius of one of the particles! LOL

Apparently, but I only saw that on Twitter, there was a wedding with Welsh and English people.... not sure if it's true though.

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
That would make good sense! It’s the only logical explanation, people from other parts of the UK bringing the virus with them and also coming into contact with a large number of locals.
I think you’re probably right!

Well, I am not surprised: lots of censorship in China.

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
Well, in the UK they are still not enforcing the quarantine on arrival so Nicola Sturgeon spoke yesterday and said Scotland will make all travellers from the 'red list' of countries to self isolate in hotels (at their own cost). As everybody predicts, once Scotland starts doing that Johnson will copy and finally do the same.
Very interesting article!
