Australia has made the decision to only give the AstraZeneca vaccine to over 50's due to the blood clotting evidence.

According to latest data you have 200 times more chance of dying of covid than getting a fatal blood clot with the AZ jab. Just saying.

It’s a month now since I had my first dose, and I still seem to be alive, so...

Yes, the UK is very low right now amongst European countries, but after the crowds in England since Saturday, I predict a third wave coming.

Oh God, that’s not good - although surely the vaccines must be having an impact on that by now? (Unless the people mixing are ones who haven’t yet been vaccinated of course.)

That would be an awful shame after what appears to have been a successful vaccination process so far. Though I realise vaccinations aren't necessarily the golden bullet against transmission.

The vaccines can reduce transmission by making people less infectious but are not able to completely stop transmission like other vaccines with other diseases. But, by reducing the viral load they do help stop the spread (to a point). 

What the covid vaccines do is to protect people from developing serious covid symptoms (and death).

Yep Aggie, that’s the key point I guess - the spread of the virus stops being an issue if it loses its ability to do us harm. 
I guess there’s still a very real risk of a 3rd wave, because the people who will have been mixing in crowds will tend to have been the ones who are youngest and fittest, and therefore likely to be the ones who haven’t been offered the vaccine yet.

Well, got my first does of Moderna vaccine today! Had to go through Walgreens pharmacy since the State was leaving me out to hang.
