ISIS to Weaponise Ebola?...
More emo-hype? I suspect so.
From Here.
Tim.
Biological weapons have the potential to be so devastating and effective that they have been banned by international treaty for many decades.
During the cold war, both sides spent enormous amounts of time, money and resources trying to create highly virulent strains of bacteria and viruses which could be deployed as an offensive weapon to decimate the enemies forces -- but which could also be effectively immunised against so as to protect one's own troops.
Although these lines of research have "officially" been halted, I think it would be very naive to suggest that work is not still continuing behind a veil of secrecy -- just in case.
Well now a US Naval War College lecturer, Capt Al Shimkus has mooted the prospect that ISIS may well be planning to use Ebola as a natural bioweapon in its war against the infidels of the West.
More hype and FUD from the US military or very real possibility?
Well firstly, we must analyse the USA's perspectives on ISIS.
A week or two ago, the USA had a golden opportunity to smash a significant sized chunk of ISIS forces, as they approached the Syrian town of Kobani.
However, instead of launching heavy bombing raids against the massed forces of ISIS, while they were without effective cover and still separated from the Kurdish fighters attempting to hold them at bay -- the USA dropped a couple of bombs and buggered off.
Why?
Well call me a cynic, but I believe the US government (and especially those lobbying from within the military and defense industries) just *love* ISIS because it means good fortunes and more power to them.
From Here.

Is it possible...yeah sure, I gave an outline on how it could be done on the other ebola thread.
Would ISIL do it?...probably not, while they are eager to embrace matyrdom, slow death from a nasty disease doesn't fit the MO, a big bang is more their style.

It is possible but not very likely Mordie. For it to be weaponised it would need a delivery system like a special shell made for that purpose. They simply haven't got that technology.
Suiciders wouldn't work that well either, even if they blew themselves up after being infected. The problem with Ebola is that the sunlight kills the virus very quickly so any infection that way would be erratic at best.
No Star, it's just a media hype to my mind! Fear Factor again!

Yep.... fear factor..... doom porn...
If they wanted a deadly virus, they should use the H5N1 Avian influenza as its mortality rate is highter than ebola and it's a lot easier to spread.

Hadn't even considered that as a delivery system TBH, it's just way to inefficient.

Bacterial diseases are best as weapons, they stay around longer than virii do. In some cases they last for years.
Traditionally Anthrax is used because it will hang around infecting people for many years after the initial infection.

Yep I agree Ice. You have more of a problem with home-grown "Terrorism" than any imported versions. Most countries are the same.
One cannot have a "War on Terror" because "Terror" is not a sovereign state so one cannot declare war on it. Same with Drugs, Poverty etc. etc. That is simply put as Politishit!

Re: ISIS to Weaponise Ebola?...
Did anyone hear of the problem the soldiers sent to West Africa are having? I read an article from msn 00:17:42news that the family of the soldiers have great concern about their protection from the Ebola virus. I can understand very well their concern. I am sure the moral is low. This is putting the soldiers at risk at this point because the danger of them being infected is far greater now that it is out of control.

It would depend on just where they are and how close the infection is. As long as they don't touch an infected person or body, they should be alright Star.

Maybe we have to review the question about Isis using the Ebola virus as a weapon, we need to know a bit more before we can rule it out. With what we are now hearing I think the world is getting ready to panic. What do you think?

Re: ISIS to Weaponise Ebola?...
I don't think they will, Star. Jihadist's seem to yearn for martyrdom, which means going out with a bang, not lurking around infecting people until dying a slow death.
That isn't to say however, that they wouldn't infect prisoners and release them back to their enemies.
