Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
Well, I was away for a few days and I come back to more misinformation from the UK's right wing tabloid (not newspaper): the Daily Mail (also know as the Daily fail or Daily hate... they are one of the most racist and xenophobic tabloid).
To all who care about the truth, please note the first graph posted and read the source... the source is 'Statistic Guy' (who is also a covid denier etc). The Daily Mail got their info from him, which are not the official data.
Funny enough they didn't publish it all, they 'failed' to show the spike in deaths from week 44.
In week 46 deaths in England were 12254, almost 20% higher than the 5 year average.

Also, deaths by flu, just look at those numbers and compare them to the Covid data (not even 1/10 of covid deaths):

Good, he is not a real doctor and he definitely is not the chairman of the Royal College of Physicians and surgeons of Canada... the medical community have issued a statement about him.

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
So, Have had some COVID-19 hit my family, thankfully their immune systems seem strong and they have not been hit hard by the virus, on the other hand, have had a friend die earlier in April and now another friend has it, and his father who also got the virus passed away recently. People going on about it being a hoax, poo-pooing masks and safe distancing and quarantining are just being fooking retarded and should understand that spreading false info from quacks is working against the common good.
Basically grow the loving up and wear the damned masks in public to help avoid spreading shit around.

Hey Lenz, sorry to hear about your family and friends having the virus. I totally agree that calling it a hoax or not taking it seriously is bonkers.
Sorry to hear that some close to you have suffered losses because of it, and hoping your friends and family who currently have it will make a full and quick recovery.

Sorry to hear about your friends and family, Len... I cannot wait until the pandemic is under control...
I see covid deniers as I see flat Earthers, antivaxx, Brexit/Tory/ Trump voters, climate change deniers etc. They live in a bubble, away from reality.

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
Sweden is really struggling right now:
- ICU beds capacity at 99%.
- In some regions healthcare workers are resigning in dangerous numbers, some up to 500 people a month.
- No mask mandate and 'herd immunity' did not work.
(I have to say that in the UK healthcare workers are also tired and fed up, with many thinking of leaving their profession).

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
It's a sad fact that healthcare workers have been at the forefront for this whole pandemic, like soldiers in wartime. It must be hard to make the decision to resign and walk away atm but on the other hand logical after all they have been through.

You hit the nail on the head, Rogue: they’re just like soldiers fighting in a war, and they deserve just as much recognition! Our Governments around the world really need to start treating them better.
Of course it’s unfortunate that some workers are walking away from their jobs and others are feeling fed up, but given their circumstances I really don’t blame them either.
They’re already heroes for all that they’ve been doing.

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
Thought this was an interesting article from a very well known and respected Dr here in Australia...
news.com.au
Coronavirus updates live: Vaccine's ability to stop transmission still up in the air
Australia isn't far off starting its COVID vaccinations - but getting the jab doesn't mean you'll be able to jump on a plane right away, with one big question still to be answered.

COVID-19:
The world has finally launched its massive coronavirus vaccine programs – but it's worth remembering that scientists still don't know if it stops transmission of the virus yet.
Dr Norman Swan, presenter of ABC’s CoronaCast, explained the common misconception, reminding people the vaccine currently just stopped people dying.
“When you hear 95 per cent effective, you are hearing 95 per cent of people who get the vaccine and get infected with the virus avoid getting serious symptoms and dying,” he said.
“Spreading the disease is another matter altogether. And that was not the criterion for approval for this vaccine.
“We don’t know whether the vaccines will actually prevent transmission of the infection.”
Dr Swan said it would take time to know whether the vaccines stop transmission.
“It will certainly stop people dying of the disease and that’s great news. But transmission, which is what we’re all looking for, stopping transmission, so we can see the end of the pandemic, allow international borders to open up, we won’t know the answer to that for quite some time,” he said.
“It is a really important distinction, one I think we probably need to be reminded of because we hear ‘vaccine’, and we think it will work like the measles vaccine.”

Yes, I guess that protecting a host against the virus doesn’t necessarily prevent that host from transmitting it, and probably only time will tell.
Really good article!

Excellent article and I totally agree! This is why masks are here to stay for the time being, and people should remember to maintain good hand hygiene too.
True that the vaccine is not the end of the pandemic (not yet perhaps), but we are one step closer.

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
I’m guessing that each new vaccine which becomes available will add a layer of protection, and each vaccine which gets approved will be a step closer to ending the pandemic.
I think what we’re witnessing is science coming into its own like it never has before. If this pandemic is unprecedented, so too I think is the fightback. I’m really starting to feel quite moved by the achievement of creating these vaccines so quickly. It’s massively impressive!

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
Apparently there’s a new strain of the virus spreading in Scotland and and also other parts of the UK, which is supposedly “50% more infectious” than the previous one; investigations are underway as to how its symptoms compare with previous strains.
Jeez, this is all we need now. I’ve begun to detest this f***ing virus on a level I didn’t know I could detest anything before.
Also, new Christmas lockdown measures have been announced this afternoon in England and Wales, but not yet in Scotland, worryingly.

Re: CORONAVIRUS-Updates, discussion, etc
Well, they have been announced now! The whole of Scotland will be on Tier 4 from boxing day, school holidays extended for 1 week + 1 week of online learning only (which means kids have 4 weeks of holidays). Travel within Scotland and from/to the rest of the UK will be forbidden.
And yes, a new strain has been going around for the past couple of weeks in London and south of England, but the vaccine still covers this strain.
