Sorry, just adding... now a shooting at the nearby shopping mall but that situation could have 'ended' now (news doesn't want to say yet). Schools, office buildings, etc are now also on lockdown, bridges have been closed.

Unfortunately, the soldier who was shot at the War Memorial has been confirmed dead. There's been two other people shot but they're in stable condition.

I might have a divergent opinion but I dont consider the first (car hit-and-run) incident a terrorist attack, but murder, either the criminal was mentally ill and the best he could come up with was running into someone in a parking lot, or he was figuratively insane (instead of clinically) and might not have premeditated his murder attempt(second degree murder).

I consider it almost lucky that he appears to be mentally ill considering kids have killed much more people in the US with guns, if he had intended to kill more people and used other means, it could have been much, much worse. But had he been more lucid, he would realize that violence, only provides political support for warmongers he's deluded about opposing, his violence is a useful tool for those who wish to justify military aggression against the people in other countries.

To put Fear in perspective:

more Canadians got killed by Police this year, and the year's not over, than people have died in terrorist attacks in Canada in the past 5 years
more Canadians die from being accidentally hit by a car, truck or bus in a single month than by terrorist attacks
Cancer kills more Canadians in a single day than terrorist have in the past decade

What ever you do, dont read about the dangers of terrorism on your cell phone while driving or walking across a street!

I awoke to the news this morning. My condolences to the families of the Canadians who have died.

Our John Key wants to send a contingent of Kiwi soldiers to fight ISIS but the majority of Kiwi's are against it. He's got to get Parliamentary approval and the Pollies are reluctant to do so this far.

It's getting really weird imo... there's a daycare filled with very young children that is still on lockdown and several buildings have been put back on lockdown sooo... perhaps this is not over yet.

Ice, whilst I agree with your regarding fear mongering, it doesn't eliminate the fact that, mentally ill or not, they were Muslims and killed in the name of their religion. The one that Killed Cirillo and went to the parliament was not a convert, his father was from Lybia.

True that these incidents are used to attack other countries and to spread fear of Muslims, but unfortunately, because of these individuals, Islamophobia is increasing. 

I have a few Muslim friends, all women, and they are all beautiful peace loving people..... but I really dislike the way they are oppressed by the males in their families and communities.

There is a saying, if you cannot catch the enemy catch his friend. In some way this is striking at the center of the political structure of Canada and will no doubt bring about security changes possibly world wide. There is definitely a religious shift, and consequently a fanatical one. There are reasons why this is happening I believe because the world is mainly focused on America they have missed the radical changes that were talking place. The chickens are coming home to roost no matter what we may think, the thing is they are home grown. Very troubling development at this time.

Criminals killed 2-3 soldiers, zero civilians, the Nato military with its helicopter machine gunning of journalists(US in Iraq) and Drone missile strikes on families, killing children and calling it collateral damage, is more terrorist-ish than these 2 murderers. There were no civilian death in these attacks, zero, no collateral damage at all, if the criminals had intended to kill like terrorists (or gung ho Nato military) they could and would have killed many people, but they didnt. The media are more terrorist-ish(in the spreading fear sense) with the Fear porn blown out of proportion and out of rational thinking. Islamic Cancer, which is regular Cancer re-branded to get more media attention, killed hundreds of Canadians in the past week, hundreds, we need to do more to fight Islamic Cancer, its an objective priority over the statistically insignificant Islamic nutcases who kill less people than hamburgers and fries. Islamic Cancer. The 1% massive inequality, Public Debt Fraud, and Banking scam should also not be ignored.

Im against any more security(in the reactionary sense), more security is more detrimental to the people and our liberty than the menace it claims to protect us from. Canada should not be an overt police state, and if a soldier standing on guard has body guards, who will be the body guards of the body guards of that guard?

I do agree that it's Fear Porn going on atm, lots of tugging at patriotic heartstrings, etc. I find it a bit tummy-turning. Don't get me wrong, it's a terrible thing that has happened, murder brought anywhere is horrific imo, and this was a symbolic strike considering the targets. I want it all to end and I wish the news coverage would ease up as well as, frankly, I think it's leading to copycats. There's been a man arrested in Halifax for carrying a rifle through the downtown there.

More security, well I agree with you there as well. Wrapping citizens up in cotton wool isn't going to do much except make life more restrictive. There will always be someone willing to cause damage in some way or another. My concern is that certain authorities know who they should be watching more closely and they're effing it up.

I agree Ka. It's no secret that I don't like Steve Harper, he's a Little Georgie Bush wannabe.

This incident will give him the excuse to clamp down more on the general population in the guise of 'Stopping "terrorism"'.

This has come as a warning to Kiwi's. The general consensus of opinion here is we should stay out of the fight in Syria and Iraq. We are a neutral country and value that neutrality.

We are of the opinion that the US created the mess so let the US sort it out.

I tend to think there's more to a political party and it's machinations than the leader of said party (the behind the scenes bureaucracies can be very entrenched despite any change in leading party) and that's all I really want to say about that.
