Totally ridiculous. It amazes me how many attitude problems various authorities have had about the AstraZeneca vaccine!! :-/

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Sigh,,,,,I truly live in a land of insane and stupid folks, the new conspiracies about vaccinations and those who have been vaccinated Q-anon is so dumb !!!
So, one conspiracy has it that vaccinated folks have a "protein shedding" that can cause either miscarriages or sterility to un-vaccinated women who get it off a vaccinated person.
HOW DUMB CAN PEOPLED GET!?!
Then, the other one which is weirder is that vaccines make folks magnetic, and the folks trying to push on that failed while still insisting it happens as one woman had her key stick to her sweat covered chest, but it kept slipping off her neck as she tried to make it seem this was possible.
Any amount of magnetic(metallic) material that could do that would KILL said person.
Insanity and stupidity going hand in hand making the movie Idiocracy a prophecy about the dumb taking over the world and I live smack dab in the middle of it as it comes to be.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Nice, glad to see they sorted it! I’m guessing they must’ve been pressured into it by the reaction to the original decision.
Great to see that common sense has prevailed in this case!

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
My son had his first dose today, he had the Moderna vaccine. I was very surprised with that, as I was expecting him to have the Pfizer. It was packed with young people, he said.

That's awesome Aggie, I'm glad.
My 2nd is booked, but it's been tricky booking 2nds for my boys. I have them on a wait list.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Wow Aggie, that’s brilliant! Great to hear your family are now getting protected one by one.
K, the waiting is a nightmare IMO, I was so glad I got offered the vaccine back in early March due to my learning disability, as the wait was causing me extra anxiety even back then. People in my age group are just getting offered their first dose of one of the vaccines now in the UK; I would’ve been driven nuts by the wait if I’d had to wait this long for my first dose I think! LOL
Glad to hear that you and your family are well on the way to getting your 2nd doses!

I'm sorry you found it so stressful Lion, I guess some people are quite sensitive to it.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Thanks for the thought
I guess it was because I’m a worrier at the best of times, and with this novel virus I’ve not known what to expect if I caught it(I might have no symptoms at all, I might end up in hospital or anything in between) but haven’t wanted to take the risk in case it turns out to be dangerous for me.
Over time, worries like this one tend to only get worse instead of better, till something happens to alleviate the situation(In this case, getting the vaccine, or better still, the pandemic ending). Hence my particularly massive relief when I got the vaccine!
I’m still not sure whether to let go of my concerns RE the virus or not, I know that having had 2 doses of the vaccine I should be safe even if I wasn’t before, but I’m still minimising my time out and about, wearing a mask, washing my hands etc, same as I did before I got vaccinated. It’s a worry I think I’m unlikely to get rid of till the pandemic is over, if I’m honest.
I’m hoping I’m just being silly and don’t need to worry so much, anxiety is probably more harmful than the virus itself! LOL

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Lion, one dose of the vaccine (any of them) offers between 70% to 80% protection, which is very good. I rather my kids have 1 dose than none. They did tell my son that they couldn't tell when he would receive his second dose... I know fully vaccinated means two doses, but having almost 80% protection is great protection level.
What we need to do is send vaccines to third world countries, or we'll never stop getting new variants and/or mutations.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
the 2nd dose is recommended, and in the US there are people refusing to even still get the first or single doses.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
People are idiots, Len!
Lion, Nicola said today that if you haven't been offered a 2nd dose, from Monday there will be drop in centres open for those who have not had a vaccine at all and for those who had their 1st dose 8 weeks or more ago and had not had their 2nd yet.
Apparently they are opening drop in centres in every city.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
That sounds really positive Aggie! I had heard about the drop-in centres being due to open soon but didn’t know it would be from Monday. That sounds really positive! (Also, it kinda confirms to me that I had a long enough gap between my doses of the vaccine for it to be maximised, as the minimum 8 week gap here wouldn’t be specified without a good reason and my gap of 9+ weeks obviously exceeds it, LOL.)
Great to hear that things are speeding up so much!
And I agree with Aggie and Lenz - Covidiots are going to be a problem and cause a problem if they keep avoiding being vaccinated. It’s really dumb.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Some recommend a 12 weeks gap between AZ dosis.
Try to find out where they are in Dundee and go see them so you can get your second dose.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
I’ve had my 2nd dose Aggie! I had it on May 12th, after getting my first dose in early March… You don’t remember? LOL
What I’d really like to do now is get a certificate - a physical one if possible - showing my vaccination status. Although I’m not planning to travel anywhere I still think it would help give me peace of mind and give me more freedom in society, making it easier to access various social events when they eventually reopen.
But getting hold of a physical copy if you’re not intending to travel seems difficult so far.

We have to wait 12 weeks between doses, and I've heard reports saying that 16 weeks is preferred and the vaccine is even stronger. My second one comes due next weekend.
We're also hearing that everyone who has had the AZ doses this year will get a booster shot of pfiser in the new year.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
I read recently that in Spain they’ve increased the gap between vaccine doses to 16 weeks for exactly that reason, yep.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Sorry, Lion, I thought you had it but when I read your posts about how anxious you still are I thought I was remembering incorrectly and you were anxious because you did not have a 2nd shot. My mistake.
As far as I know you can ask your GP to print you a letter saying you are fully vaccinated. However, the EU will not accept anybody with the AZ made in India, as it has not been approved by the EMA. I guess the GP should be able to tell you which one you had.
And yes, I have heard that they are thinking of mixing vaccines when we'll eventually get a booster. Months ago I was against that but now a study (in Oxford) seems to be showing it is not only safe to do so, but the immunity seems to be higher when combining them. The results of they study are still preliminary, so we have to wait and see.
What the study also showed is that AZ + Pfizer booster seems to give more protection than AZ + AZ booster or Pfizer + AZ booster. Spain is also conducting the same study and apparently their results are the same.
