Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Fantastic news today! It has been confirmed that if a person with one dose of the vaccine (both AZ and Pfizer) gets Covid, they are between 38% and 49% less likely to infect others. That means the vaccines do stop transmission, and so far data shows one dose halves the chance of infecting others (regardless of age).
Besides reducing transmission, they also reduce symptoms and mortality. Long live scientists!!!

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
That's very positive news, and just what we need to hear atm after all the negativity spread about side effects.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Well, this is a vaccine I don't know much about! I will have to read about it when I'm off!

Wow… that sounds amazing!! Obviously it’s still a while before it can realistically happen I guess, but that would basically answer my prayers! LOL

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
It was something I was wishing for but didn’t know if it was actually possible: to not just contain or control this virus but to actually wipe it out. So exciting to hear that it might be doable after all!!

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Lion, do you feel as anxious about any other kinds of outbreaks or are they far enough away for the most part? I'm thinking ebola or measles or plague...

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
My brother has had his vaccine yesterday, the Astrazeneca. I think soon it will be my kids turns too.
Also, after reading a couple of opinion articles, I am waiting to see if the EMA approves the Sputnik vaccine, as there seems to be a lot of controversy again (like some saying the data does not match the results of stage 3 clinical trials).

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Yep, as it turns out, I have been nearly as anxious as this about other outbreaks in the past!Kaere wrote:Lion, do you feel as anxious about any other kinds of outbreaks or are they far enough away for the most part? I'm thinking ebola or measles or plague...
SARS in 2003; Bird Flu in 2006; Swine Flu to an extent in 2009; Ebola in 2014(Even though I knew it wasn’t a new virus at that time, and relaxed after I researched and found out it wasn’t actually that contagious). Diseases have always triggered my anxiety massively, because I’ve always been terrified of being unwell.
But the anxiety about the others always passed fairly quickly when it became obvious that the outbreaks weren’t causing serious disruption to society and how it operated. I got a lot of reassurance from how everyday life just essentially went on as normal.
This has been different because of the monumental impact it’s had - on everything and everyone, worldwide.
For a long time I thought it was going to be just the same as the other outbreaks and a lot of fuss was being made about nothing. It wasn’t till sometime in March 2020 - probably about a week before the first UK lockdown started - that the reality hit me of how bad it actually was, and then I got very, very scared.
I’m aware that I’m maybe overreacting and my anxiety about it is maybe over the top; I don’t have any reference points as such, because I’ve never experienced a pandemic like this one before. Basically I just want to stay safe, because I want to survive it and come out the other side more or less in one piece. I’d rather be too safe than too reckless!

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Lion, we all feel and deal with situations differently, so you being so anxious about this is fine, because that's the way you personally feel about it.
I look at other countries and when I see places where whole families have died of covid, where people cannot attend hospitals or do not have health care systems in place, where they don't even have oxygen to help patients breath.... when I look at places like that I feel sooooo grateful to be European.
Lion, look at the positive side: you have free prescriptions if needed, you don't have to worry about running out of money because they never stopped paying your benefits, you have a cozy home and running water... man, we are so lucky, eh?

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Thanks Aggie, I appreciate your understanding; I’m a worrier at the best of times! LOL
Yes, there are a lot of things to be happy and grateful for(And I’ve definitely thought many times about those less fortunate than myself since this pandemic started). I definitely appreciate those!

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Well, I am all done and had my 2nd Moderna shot. Pain in the arm and some tiredness is mostly all I had from it.

Re: Covid-19 Vaccine updates
Uh oh… :-/
Vaccine discrimination isn’t good, especially when it’s been shown that all the vaccines have similar levels of effectiveness! I’ve guessing this is a hangover from the past confusion over blood clots etc… Sad.
So this means I won’t get to see any Bruce Springsteen gigs anytime soon. Gutted!
